In my opinion the Best Junior in the State is Austin Dufault and has a chance to bring Mr. Basketball back to Class B, for the first time since I believe Hunter Berg in 1995, if he can lead his team to State next year.
If Austin can lead Killdeer to state next year then I will be amazed...
doesnt look like he plays any defense.
Oh and everyone else listed is a defensive stopper. Ok, I see.
well im sure they at least attempt to play defense
A player might average 5 steals a game but that doesn't mean he's a good defender. I know guys that lead their team in steals and aren't there best defender. Sure, you might have the most steals, but thats now all what defense is about.

I'm not saying he's a defensive stopper but you guys are flatout ignorant if you are saying he doesn't play D. And you can't say everyone on that list is a D stud. I don't know how much you know about BB, but if someone is averaging 4-5 steals a game, he's playin some darn good defense!

During the BCN game thats what it looked like he was doing. He's a good player don't get me wrong, but at the state tournament there was a couple time where he would just sit a half court and wait.
It goes in this order (and yes, I've seen all these kids play)
1) Austin Dufault, Killdeer: Has every D-II college in the upper Midwest foaming at the mouth over him and is probably waiting to get some D-I looks. Is a 6-7 guard who can also play just about any position on the floor and does. Borderline first team all-stater this season and lock-down Mr. Basketball candidate next year (if he stays injury-free).
2) Austin Vetter, Bishop Ryan: Had a great state tournament. Made some nice moves in the paint. I'd like to see him and Zac Elgie go 1-on-1 and see whose face gets bloody first. I'm betting it'd be Elgie. After watching him at the state tournament, I'd be amazed if he wasn't an all-state pick.
3) Jamie Mauch, Hankinson:Â Not too bad of a state tournament. Proved that his numbers weren't inflated by a poor region. Pretty much locked down his all-state nod.
4) Justin Shipman, Watford City: Played at what most coaches think was "80 percent" this year and should probably still get all-state looks.
5) Rudy Young Bird, Parshall: Not too bad of a player. Seems to get things done in the post fairly well but will have to become the leader of the Braves next season without the Packineaus around to take the pressure off of him. If he proves he can do this, I'd think about moving him up this list.
Others: Logan Carlblom, Lisbon; Jacob Erhardt, Hazen; C.J. Ironheart, Four Winds.

MPCG - Ross Olsen?
I know there are more but these are ones off the top of my head
ok first of all Paul Holand is a sophomore and Randy Syrstad is a senior. So let's take those two off of the list. Your also forgetting probably the 2nd best player in the region behind Kilinskie and that's Seth Nichols from Dakota Prairie. Only names worthy from Region 2 to be on this list areilove_basketball wrote:north_border_eagles2106 wrote:some from region II

I like your top 5 but the order is a little bit off. I'd say Dufault, Mauch, Vetter, Young Bird, and then Shipman. Dufault, Mauch, and Vetter are all great mostly because of their versatility. They are all big guys that can step behind the arc and hit shots when needed. Dufault is first because it is so so hard to guard a 6'7" kid that can shoot the rock. I put Mauch ahead of Vetter because I think he's more dangerous with his ability to take you off the dribble and he creates a little more havoc on defense with his length. Young Bird gets my nod over Shipman because he is a more polished scorer and a fantastic rebounder. Shipman is talented too but he gets a lot of garbage points off of offensive boards and his teammates creating shots for him. Being able to rebound like he does and find openings is an overlooked skill but I still can't say he is better than Rudy. From last year to this year, I would have to say Rudy Young Bird is easily the most improved player in the state that I have seen play.
I know I meant Bryan Syrstad instead of Randy and Andrew Wysoski instead of holland, settle down man. I put that on there a long time ago before I had seen Nichols play. If you can see where it says "I know there are more but these are ones off the top of my head" it means that I'm just putting the ones I know from memory and I just put the wrong Syrstad brother and got mixed up with the guards from Grafton. I don't think that there are only two players from Region II that are "worthy" of being put in top Juniors either. You make it sound like we are handing out Mr. Basketball to these players. I would also say that Severson from Dakota Praire deserves to be on this list as well. Next year him and Nichols could lead DP to the state tournament.Region 2 fan wrote:ok first of all Paul Holand is a sophomore and Randy Syrstad is a senior.
