For those who weren't at the Shiloh Invitational I can fill you in on what I took away from it.
I came to see Shiloh and Oak Grove, but I left impressed with all four teams.
ORCS vs Dickinson Trinity
Our Redeemer's seemed to be a more dominant team here, but not by much. ORCS's guards went to work in the first half but their post showing was really impressive in the second half. As for Trinity their shooting was lightning and difficult to stop.
ORCS had the game for long periods of team that were ended by short lived but awe inspiring comebacks, including one that brought them into overtime. However that didn't continue because they only scored 2 in OT
Shiloh vs Oak Grove
Probably the most exciting game of the night. Oak Grove didn't seem to show up, Carter wasn't hitting shots, so Shiloh definitely took advantage. Zac Martin really stepped up for Shiloh I thought and was a big piece in the final quarter. Despite being way behind in the first, Shiloh had a chance with eight seconds left, down by one. Unfortunately the free throws wouldn't fall but still an exciting game
Oak Grove vs Dickinson Trinity
I don't know what to say exactly about this one. Oak Grove had the edge in this one, especially thanks to Christian Adams attacking the basket. To me, the game never seemed in doubt, even though the score was tight at times. A technical and a foul on a three in the same play was a God-sent for Trinity to come back, but it didn't happen. Not to discredit their play though, I was still very impressed.
Shiloh Christian vs Our Redeemer's
This game was just like Our Redeemer's first, but with the roles reversed, at least in terms of the long runs followed by short runs. Our Redeemer's shots weren't falling like they were against Trinity, call it bad luck or lock down defense. First half seemed like anyone's game if you ask me, but the fire was really on the side of Shiloh in the second . ORCS put on a really good run in the last minutes of the game but threes from Blake Emmel and Zac Martin kicked the run to the curb. I don't think the score fairly portrayed the excitement of the game.
All I can say is that on any given night any of these teams could beat one another.
I was especially impressed with ORCS. I think between them, Hettinger, and Berthold, they're teams the polls just haven't respected enough.
