I could see Rugby fall out of the Top 10 and Maple Valley move into the #10 spot (Beulah moving to #9)...Also Hazen will probably drop to #8 after their close loss to DT.

How many games does Hatton-Northwood have to lose before people quit giving them votes?

I agree...I don't care how good you are or who you lose to; you lose FOUR games you don't deserve to even get votes.

Plus...Hatton-Northwood's losses are to Thompson, LaMoure and Grafton. Also, Ada-Borup (MN) good programing.

Yes they are better than 13 teams that they have played. But, that doesn't mean they are very good. If you look at the schedule that they play outside of the district, historically it is pretty weak. It is a product of their geography more than anything. I am not sure they are a top two team in many districts. I took a quick look at the updated standings. I think the only district that they would be as high as a number two team in districts 1-8, is in district 8. I think they are fairly equivalant to Edgley/K who are the number two team from district 5 I believe....

There is no such thing as a bad 13 win team from region 2. They are a very good team. Have you seen Engels play? Hes the real deal, extremly quick, good range and a very good passer. Wathe does a very good job inside and if the other guys are hitting from the outside they are very tough to beat. They made it regionals last year and I would expect them to be 2 or 3 coming out of D3 this year. Saying they are a weak team is niave.

Packers, take some time to comprehend what you read. First off, I didn’t say they are a bad team. Saying a team is not VERY GOOD, doesn’t mean they are bad. It means they are not VERY GOOD. To answer your question, yes I have seen Engels play, both basketball and football. He is a nice athlete, very quick, but his size does hurt his game a bit. Wathe is a nice player. Scores the ball pretty well and would play on any team around. So, you have a team in Griggs County that has two players that are pretty good. You say that “if the other guys are hitting from the outside they are very tough to beat”. How many teams are not pretty tough to beat if their 3rd, 4th, and 5th best players are hitting outside shots? I never said they are a week team, if that is what you got out of what I wrote you may have a problem with literacy. Facts are facts. Griggs County only plays 10 games this year vs. region 2 teams (I find it difficult to believe that may teams play so few games in their own region). Once again a product of their geography, the only team they play twice in their district is Dakota Prairie who is alright, but not a top team in the district. The two region games they play that are not in their district are vs. Midway (2-5 district points) who is next to last in district 4 and Valley/Edinburg (3-5 district points). So, don’t give me the “There is no such thing as a bad 13 win team from region 2”. Once again, didn’t say they were bad. Secondly, they nearly play more teams from outside their region than from in it. And finally, region 2 is typically the toughest in the state, but most people in the region would agree, from top to bottom, the region is not as tough as it is most years. Still some very good teams at the top, but overall it is a down year. We will see how they fair when they play Maple Valley and Hatton/Northwood in the near future.

I do comprehend what I read. I still strongly disagree w you, but thats fine. How do they have to play MV and HN for you to think they are "Very good"? Split, win both, lose both close? Those 2 teams are state contenders say that GCC isnt is wrong.

I think your last statement is incorrect. I don’t think those teams are state contenders (if your meaning is state champions). I have not had a chance to watch Hatton/Northwood this year. Spoke to someone from there before Christmas and he felt they were not as good as they were last year. I am not sure if Kyle Peterson is playing or not. That would make a difference. In the paper there is a Peterson scoring a couple points a game (which doesn’t sound like Kyle), but I think that may be one of the other Petersons. I would give H/N about a 30% chance of making it to state, which is pretty good. If they make it to state, I would give them about a 15% chance of winning it. I may be making that a little high based on past region 2 successes. I have seen Maple Valley play twice this year. I don’t think they are by any means a top team (30 point loss to Central Cass). I would say without a doubt they were better last year when they had more size and a strong post presence on both ends of the court. With the exception of Central Cass region 1 is down this year. I don’t see Maple Valley as being much better than any of the next 4 teams after Central Cass. I would say Maple Valley has about a 10% chance of making it to state, with almost no chance of winning it. I am not sure if I would change my mind about Griggs County having seen them play. I guess I would think that if they are a very good team they should beat H/N by 8 if they are at home and just winning the game if they are on the road would be good. I think they would have to beat Maple Valley by 12+ since I know that game is a home contest for them. You can’t just look at a team record to decide how good they are. You have to take into account who they play and how though those opponents are. A two point win at a 6 win Midway/Minto along with a six point win vs. a 4 and 13 Barns Co. North are not very impressive.

I still dont understand how Hatton-Northwood is in there and Rugby isn't. Rugby's 2 losses are to #1 North Star and #7 Bottineau, i think they should be #10. Or Shiloh Christian could probably be ahead of Hatton-Northwood also. IMO

Hatton-Northwood's 4 losses are by 2 points vs. #5 Grafton, 5 points to 15-2 Ada-Borup (on a neutral court), 10 points @ #3 LaMoure, and 1 point @ unranked (but previously ranked/RV) Thompson.

I think getting kicked by North Star was not favorable for Rugby. Also Rugby has 2 losses in their past 6 games where Hatton-Northwood has won their last 5 games (2 opponents were Thompson by 18 and RV Griggs County Central by 15).

IMO...Hatton-Northwood is where they should be and Rugby probably was 1 or 2 votes behind Hatton-Northwood's 16 votes.

Shiloh Christian has won several game in a row (8, I believe)...however, IMO their loss to Oak Grove (9-8) by 11 on their home court hurts them.

Say what ya'll want to say about Hatton Northwood and playing teams close, but close only counts in horseshoes fellas! i watched them play, and wasn't all that impressed, especially not with all that hype circulating them. Are they a good ball team? Definitely, but why Warwick is not ahead of them is beyond me. but maybe thats why i aint one of the ones actually giving the votes.

Hatton Northwood's only losses were to two top ranked teams a tough Minnesota team and a good team. Its called strength of schedule, thats why they are slightly ahead of Warwick. Hatton also had some untimely injuries, I would suggets Hatton is placed right where they should be and will be a tought opponent in Region play.

Funny how the polls are forgotten once tournaments start. No posts to this thread since Feb 9. So if the pollsters are right the winners should be:
Region 1: Central Cass
Region 2: Grafton
Region3: LaMoure
Region 4: North Star
Region 5: No team ranked, but Shiloh receiving votes.
Region 6: Berthold
Region 7: Trinity
Region 8: No team ranked, no team receiving votes.

Luck of the draw, one of the teams not ranked will get to play on Friday night and get crushed by NS (or Region 2, but not likely). Of greater interest, there is usually one upset in the regionals every year. Which region do you think the pollsters have wrong?
