If you look at the schedule that they play outside of the district, historically it is pretty weak. It is a product of their geography more than anything. I am not sure they are a top two team in many districts. I took a quick look at the updated standings. I think the only district that they would be as high as a number two team in districts 1-8, is in district 8. I think they are fairly equivalant to Edgley/K who are the number two team from district 5 I believe....
There is no such thing as a bad 13 win team from region 2. They are a very good team. Have you seen Engels play? Hes the real deal, extremly quick, good range and a very good passer. Wathe does a very good job inside and if the other guys are hitting from the outside they are very tough to beat. They made it regionals last year and I would expect them to be 2 or 3 coming out of D3 this year. Saying they are a weak team is niave.
Packers, take some time to comprehend what you read. First off, I didn’t say they are a bad team. Saying a team is not VERY GOOD, doesn’t mean they are bad. It means they are not VERY GOOD. To answer your question, yes I have seen Engels play, both basketball and football. He is a nice athlete, very quick, but his size does hurt his game a bit. Wathe is a nice player. Scores the ball pretty well and would play on any team around. So, you have a team in Griggs County that has two players that are pretty good. You say that “if the other guys are hitting from the outside they are very tough to beat”. How many teams are not pretty tough to beat if their 3rd, 4th, and 5th best players are hitting outside shots? I never said they are a week team, if that is what you got out of what I wrote you may have a problem with literacy. Facts are facts. Griggs County only plays 10 games this year vs. region 2 teams (I find it difficult to believe that may teams play so few games in their own region). Once again a product of their geography, the only team they play twice in their district is Dakota Prairie who is alright, but not a top team in the district. The two region games they play that are not in their district are vs. Midway (2-5 district points) who is next to last in district 4 and Valley/Edinburg (3-5 district points). So, don’t give me the “There is no such thing as a bad 13 win team from region 2”. Once again, didn’t say they were bad. Secondly, they nearly play more teams from outside their region than from in it. And finally, region 2 is typically the toughest in the state, but most people in the region would agree, from top to bottom, the region is not as tough as it is most years. Still some very good teams at the top, but overall it is a down year. We will see how they fair when they play Maple Valley and Hatton/Northwood in the near future.
