Could Grafton have won the E.D.C. this year?

The teams in Class AA.

So, 325 means 325, unless it doesn't cause youre Grafton and you can sell "giving opportunities". Carrington gives PBK opportunities to play, and they get moved to AA because of it. GBC gives Midkota opportunities to play, and they get moved to AA because of it. But Grafton can give opportunities and keep playing B with no penalty.

I like Grafton's football team, but I'm tired of an NDHSAA that allows this stuff to go on. 325 means 325, unless maybe it's this sport or that sport, or unless it's this school or that school, or unless someone somewhere doesn't get to play.

It's enough to make me sick.

According to the numbers: Grafton has 265 students and St. Thomas 29 students. As a whole then Grafton would have 294 students (less than 325). I guess as long as the enrollment numbers stay within the boundaries of the classes/divisions it's alright.

Actually as of late Wayzata (MN) has been getting the national attention (they've been ranked in the Top 100 poll off and on throughout the year). Also a few years ago, Fargo South was in the Rivals Top 100 (National Poll). So it does happen...But usually its a team from the top division that receives the recognition for it

So what you're trying to say is that Moorhead's Cinderella run is going to be over next week?

Depends on what Feeney has up his sleeve...but no, Moorhead will most likely get 'thumped' next weekend!

Congrats to Grafton...Teams up and down the Valley really get to know one anothers style by the time semis roll around.....the difference in an Upset vs "the right team won" is COACHING and LEADERS.
The reality of electing up to the next level is...."its the next level"....not easy to do.....so we shouldn't question it worry about or even visit the topic....why?...it don't matter.

I do know one thing....Cavalier stayed at AA when they didn't have to....and they dominated it for years....ironically the COACH from that era is the Head Honcho in Graftons next match up.....he's not known for pulling a Rabbit out of a hat.....he is known for Football, he has a Field named after him...... :)
If you can’t excel with talent, triumph with effort.

Not exactly sharp there, are you flip? My point was Grafton didn't have the numbers and depth to compete when they had 325+ students in the old class A system and they definitely don't have the numbers and depth now to compete at the AAA level. The lack of numbers led to a program that was constantly in the rebuilding stages so, it has never been continually successful. This one, successful year does not mean Grafton can or should take on schools like Fargo South, West Fargo, Red River, etc... Anyone who thinks they could have won the EDC this year is completely ignorant to the reality of the situation.

* Grafton coops with St. Thomas in football as well as girls and boys basketball. Their combined enrollment is well under 325.

* Grafton's coop(s) in hockey doesn't matter as Grafton will always play against the larger schools.

* Grafton's coop in girls softball would place the school above the 325 mark, but to state Grafton has to move up a level in all other sports because of girls softball is ridiculous as there are all sorts of crazy coops in softball.

* Grafton's coop in wrestling would also put it above the 325 mark.

I guess Grafton could say to these schools, if you want to join for one sport, you have to join in all sports. Could you imagine Grafton with Park River, St. Thomas, Drayton, Minto, Valley-Edinburg, Midway, Cavalier, and Langdon in all sports? You and several others would really be feeling sick then.

the question was "Could Grafton have won the E.D.C. this year?" My opinion is that they could have competeted well. That could leave the imrpession that they possibly "could" have won the EDC or possibly not. i am in no way stating that it could happen every year, just this year. Fact: EDC down this year. Fact: Grafton has the best team in a long time. A few posters on this thread seem to think that the divisional jump from AA to AAA is such a leap that no team could ever even try succeed in a game. Devils lake didnt win the state last year in AA yet won the EDC this year with a team that in my opinion wasnt as good as last years team in AA. Take North Star in basketball. i believe that they could have competed in class A last year and they are one of the smallest class B teams in the state. I mean no offense to any one with my opinions and they are just that, opinions. Every one has the right to theirs. JMHO.

Unity77, do you have any idea how bad the EDC was this year?

Going into the season people in DL thought they were the 2nd worst team in the EDC. They figured they would have had a down year in AA and you're trying to tell me there isn't a chance Grafton could have beat them and a majority of the rest of the EDC?

The question isn't could Grafton compete year in and year out in the EDC, it about this perfect storm of events where Grafton has their best team ever and the EDC is the worst it has ever been.

I agree with Unity77. The EDC was down this year. And, Grafton was up....way up. I think Grafton could have gone undefeated in the EDC as well this year. They have an awesome team this year. They are men amongst boys this year in AA.

You got me Flip as I didn't know how bad the EDC was this year and perhaps I haven't been giving the Grafton boys enough credit.

I can easily see Grafton getting at least the #2 seed and quite possibly overtaking Devils Lake for #1, but I'm almost sure that Grafton would have followed suit with the East's playoff performance against the West by losing in the first round.
