My first question is... Does anyone know if in fact Heart River played Grant County in the regular season? I heard they did and Grant County gave them some good competition.

I would like to see SPL take this one, however, it is a play off game and not one team can be discounted at this stage. The stats on these two teams are very similar. But I know first hand that SPL played JV in many of the second halves of many of the regular season games. I don't know that information reguarding HR. In fact, this last game was the first one I have seen this season where SPL played many of varsity players all the way to the end.

Stanley PL has a lot of depth, many well rounded multi-talented athletes. The whole team adjusts to difficult situations to get the job done. I don't see them having to much trouble until semi-finals.

I think whichever team comes out of the west will be state champs.

Heart River is in the SAME Region as Grant County-Flasher. Heart River defeated GC-F 30-18.

Thanks. I should have looked back but I thought Grant County played 9-man.

Gotta give the edge to Stanley-Powers Lake. They have such a strong running game. Roehrich rushed for 190 yards and Smith for 172 yards in the win over Killdeer last week. Their 20-0 win was their 3rd shutout of the year and only the second time all year that they scored less than 35 points in a game.

Those are some impressive rushing stats. Is it common for them to both run for 100+ yards a game?

They are both very talented backs. Roehrich has 1000+ on the year. I am not sure what Smith's number is. Roehrich finds holes and can get through any of them. Smith is refered to as "big bruiser." Smith can have some awesome gains but he is a "through the middle, get gains when needed" type of player. I refer to him as a "bus." Together they are a force to be dealt with. It is not uncommon for them to have high numbers, they work well together and have great offensive line protection as well.

don't discount Smith's speed..he has scored quite a few long runs and is one of the top 100m runners in the region for track....SPL is built on power and speed....HR is built on misdirection and speed...

For the regular season, Roehrich had 1134 yards rushing on 103 attempts. Smith had 431 yards on 50 attempts, but I believe he sat out a coulple games with injury.

Wow. 11.0 and 8.6 yards per rush. That is even very good for 9 man. Not going to lose many games when you find yourself in second and five feet all game long.

Smith was injured in Velva game with sprained ankle. He was used very limited for three games because of it. Kudos to Lyne Enget for allowing him to heal.

Well I think smith had a few games over 100 yards. He is finally starting to see more and more carries each game. He was only seeing maybe 5 or 6 six carries a game for awhile. But smith is the fullback and the fullback tends to not see as many carries as the tailback.

It was also mentioned that smith missed a couple games due to a sprained ankle sustained early in the second quarter against velva in week 3. He sat out the rest of the game and didnt dress the next week and still wasnt up to par when he returned week 5 so that was probably another reason for being pretty limited for a few weeks.

I dont see how Stanley will put more than 24 points on the board. Heart River held Hazen to 26 and they -led 7-0 at the half over the Bison. They run the wing-t offense as good if not better than Velva. Very very fast football team. On special teams, there was a reason why they kicked the ball away from the returners. It will be interesting if Heart River can handle the physical play of Stanley. I cant wait till Saturday, it will be an awesome football game I think.

If I had to put money on a winner, I would pick Stanley because they are at home. I wouldnt be suprised if Heart River wins either.

Couldn't you look at it like.....

If it wasn't for a poor first half, Hazen would have put 52 on the board vs Heart River?

I believe HR had 3 rushers go over 100 last week, with two over 150. Ewoniuk and Hecker are very fast and Strecker is fast and big. Should be a very good game. I'll take HR 28 - S-PL 14.

I get edgy about this game. I think they are very evenly matched teams. My biggest concerns are going to penalties. Stanley in my opinion is absolutely ATROCIOUS when it comes to losing yards. How many yards per game do they give up???!! I am not sure about Heart River.

I will give the edge to Stanley on the contingency that there are no penalties called. If there are a bunch of penalties, Heart River will be able to capitalize.

Good Luck to Both!!
