Poll through the year.

Postby old#63 » Wed Oct 19, 2011 11:23 am

Just did a quick rundown of how the statewide poll has changed as the year unfolded.

Grafton..........RV,RV, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1
Bottineau........NR,RV, 4, 4, 2, 2, 3, 2
Wahpeton.........3, 2, 1, 1, 4, 4, 4, 3
Shanley...........1, 1, 5, 5, 3, 3, 5, 4
Carrington......NR,NR,NR,RV,RV, 5, 2, 5
Bishop Ryan.....4, 3, 3, 3, 5, NR,RV,RV

As far as other teams either in or potentially in the playoffs, Kindred has received some votes on and off during the year, Mary was ranked 5th in poll 1 and hasn't recieved any votes since, and Beulah has never recieved any votes.

As far as teams who did not make the playoffs, Trinity was ranked as high as 2nd in poll 1, Valley City was ranked as high as 4th in poll 2, Lisbon was ranked as high as 5th in poll 2, and Central Cass and Rugby both recieved votes early on.

Very interesting!

So essentially Griggs-Barnes County and TMCHS never received any votes throughout the year.

Looks like Bottineau and Carrington surprised a lot of people, and Ryan stumbled.

I think Carrington was the big (positive) surprise...and Dickinson Trinity was the big (negative) surprise in the season.

And Wahpeton was a big positive surprise as well. Even though they were rated #3 in the first poll, that was after their win over Mary (who many thought would be the best in the west). Prior to the season, not many people were talking about Wahp.

I got to see Wahpeton vs Lisbon last night. Medhaug is a beast. Wahpeton has a lot of team speed and athleticism, they are also pretty young. Look for even better things to come over the next couple of years.
We plan and God laughs.

Nor did Beulah, and they might make the playoffs.

The pre-season polls played a big part in the early volatility as did the precieved stregths in east vs. west. typically the pre-season polls come to more truition that this year. i.e. wahpeton comes out of no where and the top pre-season teams out west ST Mary's and DT early dispares. JMHO
