What does everyone think? I just watched them struggle against Division III Concordia...in my opinion it will be a long year for the Bison.

What's everyone's opinion cause mine isn't the one that matters...

I think what you have to realized with exhibition games is that teams cant play zone or run sets. If you look at Syracuse, they almost always struggle in exhibition and play clsoe games. thats because all they do is play 2-3 and never practice man. Since they dont know how to play man its almost like watching 5th graders again while playing defense the first time. also about sets, exhibition games are just glorified scrimmages. Some teams just have scrimmages closed tot he public, exhibition means open to the public. How they can define if a team is running sets, i have no idea. I watched the Kansas game the other day, they looked solid on offense, but that comes from playing together for 2-3 years. I went to the Mary-Northern Iowa game this afternoon and it was soooo sloppy you could tell it was all free lance.

After that rant, my point is you cant judge by exhibition because the rules of the game alot of times dont allow a team to do what they usually would

I didn't realize that you couldn't run offensive sets in exhibition games. That really helps explain the sloppy play that occurs in most of those games. (I knew about the no zone rules) Thanks for the great post, its always nice to learn something new!

If I remember correctly Syracuse lost to a D2 school last year in an exhibition and they ended up with a number 1 seed. The year before Michigan Stat lost to a D2 school and played UNC in the title game. So I don't know how much stock you can put in these games.

By the way it sounds, the Bison played a good game last night against an Oregon team that people think could be a darkhorse in the Pac-10. If they can play like that night in and night out they could be a very competitive team come the conference tournament.

From what I've heard Oregon is picked to finish last in the Pac 10, they have a new coach, only have 8 scholarship players right now because they had four transfer, another went pro and one is academically ineligible.

Yeah I saw that they were ranked low in the Pac-10 school. The Bison won tonight against UC-Santa Barbara 68-60.

NDSU beat a good UCSB team that returns 5 starters and went to the dance last season.

BIg game against the U of M today! Minnesota is legit this year. Tubby has them looking strong. Very athletic and talented. NDSU could play well against the Gophers but I think the Gophers will easily win this one.

Tough loss to Oakland tonight. Oakland is legit though and Benson is a great player. Bjorklund played with him though. Marshall had 21 points tonight against Benson and Benson is projected to get drafted so thats pretty good. Best part of the game was in the last minutes after one of the refs who had been terrible all night Saul Philips told the student section very loudly to boo the ref. it was awesome. Probably going to get into some kind of trouble, especially since Summit League Commisioner Tom Douple was at the game. Still got the crowd really into it at the end.

Is saul starting to feel some pressure as it looks like it could be his second losing season in a row now?

Possibly. The team has been struggling. They have talent, but just don't put full games together. I think last nights reaction to the ref's call was just about last night however. Being at the game and sitting in the student section yelling at the same guy all game I can say that there were many terrible calls. I don't blame the loss on the refs though. When you lose by 7 and shoot 1-14 from 3 point range its your own fault. NDSU needs to start shooting like they did at the start of the season.

I think they have a great oppurtunity to catch fire and upset someone in the Summit League Tournament

They can play with the teams, but being the 7 seed they will have a tough matchup in the first round. IUPUI and Oral Roberts would be the most likely to be the 2 seed.

Great game the other night against SDSU. 10 straight over the jacks now. 7 dunks by NDSU including a buzzer beating oop at the end of the first half, multiple fastbreaks, a tip slam, and a huge one by Trayvonn Wright over two defenders straight up in the paint. Great way to end the home careers of two great senior leaders in Michael Tviedt and Freddy Coleman.
