1. Dickinson -- Hanstad, Moody, Abrahamson, Kessel, Wanner, Steffan. I expect Hanstad to improve upon his numbers from last season and I believe Kessel will be a solid second option. Moody is still one of the more athletic players in the WDA and Abrahamson is as experienced as any.

2. Mandan -- Coyle, Collins, Westby, Janz, Zinke, Marcellais. Depth could be an issue but probably the most raw talent in the WDA. I would put them at number 1, but I want to see how Mandan's style of pressure defense will work without so much height in the middle altering shots.

3. Century -- Maund, Fraase, Melvie, Ledger, Rivinius, Rhone, Bray, Thunshelle. I like this starting 5. Depth could be an issue, but I think most teams will have this problem. On paper, this is a very good team. All but Ledger are unproven at the varsity level, but I do believe they can and will step up.

4. Bismarck -- Schirado, Fitterer, Liggins, Talmadge, Werner. This team lacks tremendous offensive fire power but I believe that will be made up on the defensive end. I see Liggins having a breakout season this year and ending up as an all stater. *If Kleinjan is back for the basketball season, I think Bismarck goes up to number 3, maybe even higher. The lack of a true point guard will hurt this team and Kleinjan brings that aspect to BHS.

5. Minot -- Murphy, Magnuson, Steinwand, Crosby, Adams, Moch, Gerding. This team is intriguing. They have potential to be a very, very good team. Steinwand will be solid. I think Crosby and Adams are the big question marks. If Crosby and Adams are consistent scorers, this team should have no trouble making the state tournament and doing damage.

I think any of these top 5 teams could all contend for a WDA title, it is that close.

There is a huge drop off between five and six. All of these teams will probably be rebuilidng for the next few seasons, but the future could be bright.
6. Saint Mary's
7. Belcourt
8. Jamestown
9. Williston

IMO the top five can go anyway. It's going to be a dog fight for the top 5. This year the WDA top 5 is gonna be a very close race. It's gonna be a great season for them as to who goes to state.

Dickinson at number one. Would anyone agree with me that when your best player reaches his senior season, your whole team goes to a new level? I believe that this team has under achieved the last few years because of lack of leadership. Now, all of the best players (excluding Kessel) will be seniors. Leadership is now dominant to Dickinson, while in the past, all of the team's best players felt underneath less talented seniors. This team is fully theirs and will be running on all cylinders. Most talent out of any team in the west no doubt. They may kill teams.

They will be good. Their third place finish in 2009 was not bad by any means though. I felt that that was a very good finish for a young Dickinson team.

I won't disagree. That's fair to say.

I think that was an outstanding finish for a young team. What happened in 2010?

1. Mandan - Their defense will be solid and offense will be able to score. Coyle will be a key player along with Zinke, Janz, and Collins

2. Dickinson - Stud offense with Hansted leading the way obviously. Don't knoiw much about their defense but if they have a good one i can see them snagging the number 1 spot

BHS is the best team still. People are looking past them soo much just because Kleinjen is out. They still have Liggins and Werner which NOONE can stop and good shooters in Fitterer and Schirado. They will prevail with another title this year.

Home games are easy to win with the crowd behind you but it's gonna be the teams that win on the road that will separate even the top 5. I still believe the WDA is a toss up between the 5, in who wants it more.

I really see belcourt coming on this year. I've sat in on a couple of their practices and I can tell you I loved what I saw. Their full-court press is phenomenal and have their 3 point shooting down to a science, they missed a few layups here and there, but hey who doesn't. For me, they are the sleepers in the west. Don't be surprised to see them fighting for a spot at state.

Big time baby Century will have two guys that are at least 6'4" on the floor at one time that leads me to believe that they will be greatly improved from last year in the post game.

i agree. century's post offense is going to be much better than previous years, especially with mattern returning as coach.

They'd be even better if they put their 3rd and more superior 6'4" guy in, Kam Wingenbach. K-bach is a potential powerhouse in the low-post. He also has the ability to slash to the basket for any easy 2 or just launch one up from beyond the 3. He's like a joel przybilla, josh howard, and matt bonner all rolled into one. In short, if he gets a minutes, he gets a buckets.

Since we are about half way thru the season, here's my opinion for the year

1. Century 18-1
2. Bismarck 16-3
3. Minot 13-6
4. Dickinson 12-7 (Dickinson and Minot could switch positions)
5. Mandan 10-9
6. Jamestown 10-9
7. Belcourt 5-14
8. St. Mary's 4-15
9. Williston 1-18 - Sorry Williston you won't make WDA this year.

Your wins and losses don't add up. I think bismarck will lose at dickinson and at mandan but will split with century so you are correct. Dickinson and mandan should be higher and minot should be lower in my opinion. Century will have more than 1 loss. It we be key to have a top 3 seed at wda as it will make a much easier first round game.

Are these your wda regular season predictions. All that really matters is the wda tournament and it will end up as follows. 1. Dickinson 2. Bhs. 3. Chs 4. Mandan. As an east team I would not want to play any of these teams in the first round of the state tourney.

T$$, just have fun with it, it's predictions, nothing is set in concrete until we get there. Still alot of games to play until then.
