elementary sports

can anyone explain to me why different areas of the state hold their youth sports seasons at different times. example...some areas have 5th & 6th boys basketball september to october, some areas have it november to december, some areas march and april. And the same thing goes for girls 5th & 6th grade basketball. Junior high basketball and volleyball appears to be the same also.

Wouldn't it be in the best interest of the state to have these seasons at the same time in all areas and maybe extend them a little bit. at least a couple months. Then maybe some teams could travel a little bit and get a few more games in? heck, the season these days for the elementary grades is only a month long. what can these kids learn in a month?

It's different for the kids growing up near the larger areas (fargo, minot, bismarck, grand forks, dickinson etc.). These kids are able to find leagues to play in all winter long. but a lot of the kids that do not have easy access to the larger areas hardely get any floor time at all the way the season are set up now.

I guess I just find it odd some areas 5th & 6th grade basketball was over by the middle of october and some areas are running it now. let's extend these youth seasons and get some continuity.

For some places around the state it might be because that is the only time where they can get gym space. If you play high school junior high and elementary basketball all at the same time small schools would have trouble with scheduling.

Scheduling gym time is the biggest issue for most small schools. In some of the larger towns, the elementary sports programs are run through the city's parks and rec and not the school district, and the kids have to work around their schedule also.
