Stadstad tourney

Postby gfhockey » Thu Dec 17, 2009 9:33 pm

RR just beat a top 10 minnesota team in a shootout. Goes down as a tie in the record books but RR advances.

Impressed with fugleberg. This kid is awesome with the puck. Scored 2 times in the shootout. Also number 4 for RR a freshman john lazut(sp?). this kid plays with no fear. HE was putting roseau's top players on teh butts all game long and he attacks the offensive zone. Scored a goal and a assist for the freshman D

Laducer didnt play his best game of the season. He got the puck taken away from him multiple times and was often falling down and lot and looking at the ref for a call.

Alan zahoui appeard to have the GW in the shootout but the refs were too quick the whistle as the puck was still moving quickling in teh 5 hole fo the goalie and in to the net.

Any of you surprised by RR yet? Should be.

Gunna be a long year for the GF haters out there with GFC dominating the top team in the west and GFRR tied (or won depends on how u look at it) a very good roseau team who beat moorhead i beleive 4-1

Roseau is the 11 ranked team in Minnesota, not top 10. Either way, still a good tie to get for national rankings, for sure.

However, this tournament is really suffering with the loss of BJ and Blaine, both much better teams than Roseau, Apple Valley, Bismarck...

You won't sleep in a hotel, that's a bad idea. You should travel there on bus each day. It's better than sleeping in the hotel beds and dealing with all the hotel problems, trust me.

That's the first time I heard about that. Does that mean GF will host EDC in the Ralph? That would be pretty cool, actually. I honestly do believe that Fargo will be a better environment for State until it has the potential to overflow the Urban Plains. With the population of Fargo, I also believe it'd be a bigger attraction there compared to in Grand Forks. But I do see where the better rink argument comes from.

I'm glad they're gonna at least give it a shot though. Should be interesting. Hopefully Fargo supports at least one good high school team that year so it gets some good attendance.

Never heard where the edc will be.

only argument i see with the bigger attraction is fargo people say we are basketball only town and we dont care about hockey. ndsu doesnt need hockey cuz we dont like hockey. so to say its a bigger attraction idk.

I shouldn't have said it's a bigger attraction. I actually think for what it is, State Hockey is pretty much a non-event wherever it's being held right now. A state that is putting up top 25 and even close to top 10 teams in the nation some years should have a lot more pride in it then say their football and basketball programs. (Though I haven't looked at how our basketball compares nationally, I don't think we fare that well to be honest)

Putting it in Fargo doesn't make it a bigger attraction, it's probably still at the non-factor point, it's just that in the metro area there are five sources of hockey teams, it's more centrally located, and there is a metropolitan area of 120-140k people able to attend rather than something like 60k less than that. (Not looking up statistics right now, just throwin out numbers)

That's what I was trying to say, not that one town values it more than the other. If anything, Grand Forks values it much more in actuality, but that doesn't mean more people will attend.

This is very saddening to me, I may be the only one but I absolutly love going to GF to watch state hockey and sometimes get to see a Sioux game!
