Pratt, Kan. -
After some last-minute recruiting and shifting, the bracket is set for this week’s American Legion Central Plains Regional Tournament at the Green Sports Complex. All games in the double elminiation tournament will be played at Smoky Ford Field.
When the Nebraska and South Dakota teams elected not to make the trip, tournament co-director Terry Jochems decided to recruit two more teams from Kansas to fill the eight-team bracket.
With the additions of Doniphan County and Larned, Jochems shuffled the first-round matchups to avoid pairing two Kansas teams in Thursday’s games.
At 11 a.m., Colby and Las Vegas, Nev., will play in the tourney opener.
Jordan, Minn., and Larned are scheduled to meet in the 2 p.m. game, while Clintonville, Wisc., will face Doniphan County at 5 p.m.
The opening ceremonies are set for 7:30 p.m., and the final first-round game will pit the Pratt 86ers against Casselton, N.D. at 8 p.m.
On Friday morning, the losers of the first two Thursday games will meet at 9 a.m. That is the first of six games scheduled for Friday.
Additional games are scheduled for 1 p.m., 3:30 p.m, and 7 p.m. Saturday, with a 1 p.m. Sunday championship game also on the schedule.
Tournament festivities will begin Wednesday evening, with the banquet at 6 p.m. at the Community Center. Greensburg city manager and motivational speaker Steve Hewitt will be the banquet’s keynote speaker.
