Hoopster-Players To Watch For

Postby Browner » Mon Mar 28, 2011 3:34 pm

Sure Basketball season is only 8 months away, but who do you think will be on next seasons "Players to watch for". (In the Hoopster Book) They usually pick about 15-20 and than 20 or so "honorable mention". Any thoughts? Some individal that come to mind right away, or a group of them?

Karleigh Weber, point guard, and Shannon Galegher, 5'9" post, both from Thompson. Played a bunch this year as freshmen and contributed heavily. They will fill the holes left by Jennifer Hegg and Whitney Sponsler very well.

Both started the entire year, so its not they'll jump into the starting lineup to plug those spots. Weber and Galegher are tough though. Those two along with Ivesdal and Demoe will be their top 4 players. Who'll be the 5th starter/kids off the bench? I was told Thompson had a group of good kids that will be 8th graders next year? I know their JV struggled this year.

I wasn't sure if Weber and Galegher started or not. Thanks for the info Wallenda.

As for the 5th starter, I would think it will come from one of the freshmen. They could quite possibly have an all-sophomore starting lineup next year.

Their 8th grade team went undefeated this year, so there'll be plenty of young talent to choose from on JV and Varsity once again. They have a 5-10 freshman that played some minutes on varsity, as well, but doesn't have much big-game experience.

And from around Region 2, players I think are the "game-changing" type for next year would include:

Messner - Dakota Prairie
Galegher - Thompson
Sletten - Hatton-Northwood
Taylor Henningsgard - Central Valley
Mack - Cavalier (hadn't seen her play before regionals but was very impressive)
Gaustad - Grafton

There are a few others that are on the threshold (and I may be forgetting one or two), but those six bring a lot of intensity to the court.

I'd have to add Karleigh Weber from Thompson---nice pt guard skills, shoots it pretty well, plays hard, and Kennedy Henningsgard from CV--shoots and defends well, had a nice region and state tourney. Other quality players include Desautel from Grafton and Gillett from DP.
