This year's finalists include:
Brittney Dietz of Beach,
Shauna Long of Standing Rock
Taylor Kraft of Central Cass
Katie King of Kenmare
Sasha Golus of Turtle Mountain
Caitlin Farroh of Grand Forks Central
Meghan Roehrich of Fargo South.

Dietz, a 5-10 guard-forward, averages 16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. She's shooting 50 percent from the floor.

Dietz is a key member of a Beach team that is 24-0 and ranked No. 1 in Class B girls basketball. The Buccaneers are seeking their second straight state championship this weekend in Bismarck. Dietz was the state tournament's MVP last year, and a 2010 first-team all-state selection.

Long, a 5-4 guard, averaged 29 points, 8 assists and 6 steals in her final season. She's a two-time first-team all-state selection. Long, who led her team to the state tournament in 2009 and 2010, finished her stellar high school career with 2,839 points.

Kraft, a 6-0 forward-center, averages 14 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. She is playing in the state tournament for the second year in a row.

King, a 6-0 center, averages 19 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists, and shot 58 percent from the floor. King and the Honkers are in the state tournament for the third straight year.

Kraft and King were second-team all-state picks last year.

Golus, a 5-10 center, averaged 22 points, 14 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks, and shot 51 percent from the field. She is a two-time second-team all-state selection.

Farroh, a 6-1 center and a first-team all-stater in 2010, averaged 21 points, 17 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. She shot 63 percent from the floor. Farroh led Grand Forks Central to a third-place finish in the Class A state tournament last weekend in Fargo.

Roehrich, a 5-11 center, averaged 24 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. She was a first-team all-state selection last year.

Roehrich's Bruins finished fourth in the state tournament last weekend.

When do they actually cast the votes? Since they just voted (released) the names of the 7 candidates last night I wouldn't think all the sportscasters voted for their pick last night?

Miss seeing her at the State B. She looks to score, and was fun to watch. I hope she wins it too!

If its a Senior Year award...as we have all been told...then it will probably be Farroh or Long.

I feel they got this one right for sure. Farroh had an amazing stat line this year. I was very impressed to see her genuine "surprise" in winning the award. Best of luck to her and all of the seniors going on to play college basketball, that group would have been a fun group to coach!

i know she was, that's what I'm saying, but i wasn't sure if surprise was the right word for it. But I'm happy she got it, you shoot 63 percent from the floor and average 23 and 17 you deserve it.
