MLS is a team from a traditionally strong program (they and Bottineau have dominated Region 6) that I believe has only lost one game this year. I'm surprised they haven't received any poll attention. I don't know exactly who they have played but they don't usually shy away from strong teams.

# 9 Hankinson takes on #2 FCT at Hankinson Thursday night....their only loss (other than to Minnetonka, student population grades 9-12 of 2800)...and that was their second game of the season and a two point nail biter. Coach Fossum has done a great job with the Pirates.

How the heck is Carrington rated over NR when NR beat them earlier this year and they both have one loss??? some things in this world make no sense...

It is the same as college football. It is what have you done for me lately. I cannot believe how many people actually care about polls. I know for a fact coaches couldn't give a rip.

Agreed. Polls are basically like a beauty contest in my opinion, mostly inconsequential and concocted for sports rubes like us to argue over its merits in fine water-cooler fashion.

Also, Carrington handed Kidder County its only loss of the season (albeit in the first game) so the voters might have weighed the results of that game more heavily than the NR-S/Carrington game when they made their decisions. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really matter much.

Whoever votes is dumb. Hankinson is still in there and so is Central Cass over Underwood and Linton? they're both having a good season of only one loss. the other have to.. 13-1 and 10-1

The problem is that most of the voters tend to come from the eastern half of the state

Then the question is why are there more teams from the east receiving votes? There are viable teams from the west that should be ranked, in my opinion, but eastern teams are getting those spots. If you can answer that one for me, I would love to know.

Viable teams like who? The same people who vote on the Class B polls also vote on the Class A polls, which the West has dominated for most of this year. I know its fun to dream up why your team isn't getting respect, but the truth is media people really don't care all that much about a specific team getting votes. You think it really bugs people at the Forum that Hankinson isn't as high on the list as Carrington? I'd be willing to bet they sleep fine at night.
But then again, the polls are here for people to complain about. More than anything, they're a measuring stick for players and fans and as I read earlier, MOST coaches could care less about them.

I know and the team I care about is receiving consideration so its not that. It just seems like the eastern teams is higher represented than the western teams. Thanks for your input!

You need to take into consideration who their losses were to! Central Cass and Hankinson lost only to teams ranked above them (Hankinson and FCT for CC and FCT for Hankinson, Minnetonka just doesn't count IMHO)....The NDHSAA site has Linton down for three losses before this poll, and Underwood's loss was to Washburn, who is 10-4, according to the NDHSAA, which admittedly, does not list all the results.

And I agree with previous posters....being ranked is not necessarily positive....it is like running up and down the court with a target on the back of your jerseys!

Central Cass actually hasn't played FCT yet -- they play them on Monday. The other loss was to Northern Cass back in December (& I believe NC was ranked at the time). We have since beaten NC in January. The other loss was to Hankinson in December.

After looking over this poll, it appears that Region 4 might be one of the toughest Regions in the state, with New Rockford and Carrington in the top 10, and Harvey recieving some votes having only lost 2 times this year, both to New Rockford in good games...never forget about that third team...when does Harvey play Carrington?

wow the region 1 tournament is going to be insane. Three teams in the top 10...and i would sleep on FSHP "RV". They have one of the scariest players in the region in shelby krueger, they can go 8 deep and not miss a beat. Very Very scary team...IF everything works out the way it should, could be a great final 2 nights of basketball in the Region One Tournament.

Bottineau is the only team in the polls from Region 6 and have to be a heavy favorite. However it seems both Kenmare and MLS will try to have some say in that. Like I said earlier I'm surprised MLS hasn't gotten any attention in the polls.

After seeing what Harvey did to Carrington tonight (56-39 in Harvey) I am officially scared of BOTH of these teams now.

It's looking more and more likely that District 7 alone has three teams that could make a serious state tournament run. Not to disrespect the other teams, but the district looks very top-heavy this year (5 losses combined among NR-S, Carrington and Harvey.) Should make for a VERY entertaining postseason!
