Christine Miller - New Town
Samantha Schmit - FCT
Samantha Baldwin - Grafton
Jenna Gillet - Dakota Prairie
Marlee Finley - Mandan
Alex Feeney - Bismarck

I like Miller or Schmit the best but I sure a class A girl will get it

Coaches vs Media.
For this award, I believe the media made some great choices!

I think Killoran is an outstanding athlete, but I thought Schmidt was overlooked for Region 1 Senior Player of the Year considering that she helped F-C-T into the regional semi-finals before losing to Hankinson. Also, I think Killoran could have easily been on that list, but the media didn't pick anyone who didn't deserve to be there either.

(dash) The following are season statistics for the finalists: Schmit, 17 points per game, 11 rebounds per game, 4.5 blocks per game, 3.5 steals per game.

Gillett, 19 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks.

Baldwin, 17 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists.

Bittner, 22 points, 6.5 rebounds and 6 assists.

This is the first year in a very long time that I don't see a clear cut winner. Its also hard to believe that their are 5 Class B athletes and just two from class A.

I agree. Although the list is good, I am surprised that they went with 5 class B players, and didn't pick one from the EDC like Paulson from Shanley. Anyway, my pick is Finley from Mandan. She was an all-stater in both class A and B.

I'd have to agree with you. Still, she's no Kielpinski! Ha. Ha.

My choices are schmit or miller. They both seem very good players. Miller's a good player, schmit is also a good player. But if I had to choose between them its Miller.

She is definitely a great player, and it is great that a player from Class B won it. Did anyone catch where she was attending college?

Congratulations to Christine Miller and also to the rest of the candidates for being nominated!
Here's the AP article on the award:

New Town's Miller honored as Miss Basketball
Associated Press
Published Sunday, March 09, 2008

BISMARCK — Christine Miller’s pursuit of the North Dakota Miss Basketball Award didn’t happen by chance.

“Coach asked me last year what my goals were going to be for this season,” the New Town senior said. “I said I wanted to be Miss Basketball. That was something I was going to go after.”

On Saturday, Miller became New Town’s first winner of the award that the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association gives annually to the state’s top senior.

This year’s other finalists were Samantha Schmit of Fairmount-Campbell-Tintah, Jenna Gillett of Dakota Prairie, Samantha Baldwin of Grafton, Kylee Bittner of Hebron-Glen Ullin, Alex Feeney of Bismarck High and Marlee Finley of Mandan.

Miller received seven first-place votes and finished with 40 total points. Feeney had two first-place votes and 19 points. Also receiving first-place votes and 14 points were Finley and Baldwin.

Bittner received 5 points, Schmitt 4 and Gillett 3.

Miller had two double-doubles to lead New Town past Bismarck Shiloh Christian in the fifth-place game at the state Class B basketball tournament. With Miller leading the way, New Town finished the season 23-5. This season, Miller averaged 19 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocked shots, 3 steals and 3 assists.

Schmit averaged 17 points, 11 rebound, 4.5 blocked shots and 3.5 steals.

Gillett averaged 19 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks.

Baldwin averaged 17 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists.

Bittner was the leading scorer among finalists, averaging 22 points, 6.5 rebounds and 6 assists.

Feeney led Bismarck into the state Class A championship game by averaging 16 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2 assists. There she met up with Finley, who averaged 15 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals in leading the Braves to their sixth consecutive state title.

Miller, who is planning to play college basketball but is unsure where, said it is impossible to win such an award without the help of other people.

“Just like you can’t win a basketball game without teamwork,” she said.

Miller was in attendance when LRSC came over to WSC. I also saw her talking with LRSC Coach Schwab after the women's game.

Even though WSC is in my backyard, I would hope she looks at LRSC. They have an incredible women's program there and have conistantly produced some great ballplayers. They also have seen the national tournament in Salina Kansas many times.

Recent LRSC great ballplayers include: Anna Skala (U of M), Darcy Deutsch (UND), Katie Schafer (U of Arizona Flagstaf D-1), Rebecca Mercer (Mt State- leading scorer, D-1), Cara Demain (UND), and probably another dozen I am missing in there. I think the Brady girl and Brekke girl transferred to UND as well.

2 years at LRSC and then onto UND or NDSU to play D-1.

He is just stating his observation. Maybe she doesn't say anything because she thinks you will go blab all over the internet that you are a friend and know what is going on.

I thought Marlee Finley would be a good decision if she won Miss Bball.......She is a good player when it comes down to it. I kno she didn't have the best stats but she has 2 championships and has been playing varsity since like 7th grade.....I believe has made all state at least twice!!!

Where is she goin to attend college??

I hope she choses BSC or Mary...United Tribes has not had a good program in a long time and I think that she would get more exposure at the other two schools. I also think that she would be a really good fit at Lake Region. Her style of play really goes well with what Schwab tries to do and they are going to need a good guard next year.
