Region 1

Who look like the favorites to come out of District 1 and 2 to make up the Region 1 Tournament? There always seem to be a few teams playing well this time of year, as well as a few teams that are starting to fizzle. FCT and Lidgerwood are playing well in District 1, while Central Cass and Northern Cass are looking good in District 2. Is Maple Valley or Richland going to make it, what about Hankinson? Is Kindred's domination of this Region over? So, in other words, who's hot and who's not?

Out of District 2 will be Central Cass, Northern Cass, FSHP and I'm guessing Maple Valley. Kindred is way down this year, especially after losing Mandi Bindas to injury. Richland is decent too, I just think Kristin Killoran and team will come to play. It will be very interesting! FCT and Hankinson are the teams to beat out of District 1. I don't know much about the others.

My picks for District 1:
1. FCT
2. Hankinson
3. Lidgerwood
4. Lisbon
(not really much surprise here at all---FCT is playing so well right now, and I really don't expect any major challenges after the top 4)

District 2:
1. Northern Cass
2. Central Cass
3. Kindred
4. FSHP

(I'm picking one major upset in the first round---being kindred knocking off FSHP---then FSHP coming through the consolation bracket and winning the challenge game. I've seen kindred play 3 times since they lost mandi bindas---and they've improved every time. Add that to them and FSHP game being just a 2 point difference a month ago. For Maple Valley to make the regional tournament, I think Killoran is going to have to pump in her 25-30 plus they need two other players to produce. Richland--even with the 4th seed, I feel that they are a year away).

Yeah--I'm already wrong on my predictions. For the first half, it looked like Kindred was gonna pull off an upset, but FSHP came alive in the 3rd.

You know, I got this out of the paper, but that doesn't seem right. Why would the #1 teams from each district (CC & FCT) be in the same bracket? Is that correct?? Maybe because the NDHSAA has a mistake and lists the pairings like this:

District 2-Team 2 vs District 1-Team 3
District 1-Team 1 vs District 2-Team 4
District 2-Team 1 vs District 1-Team 4
District 1-Team 1 vs District 2-Team 3

Shouldn't it be like this?

- Maple Valley vs. Hankinson, 3 p.m.

- Fairmount-Campbell-Tintah vs. Richland, 20 minutes after first game

- Central Cass vs. Lisbon, 20 minutes after second game

- Lidgerwood vs. Northern Cass, 20 minutes after third game

I'm thinkin it'll end up being FCT vs Central Cass in the championship game. FCT vs Hankinson should be interesting though. FCT's my pick outta region 1.

I don't think FCT has ever been to state and Central Cass hasn't been there since 1974. These teams should both be motivated! Anyone know when Lidgerwood and Hankinson girls last made it to state?

In 2002, May-Port CG boys won the state championship. Technically, there wasn't a girls championship played in Class B in 2002.

Hankinson was there in 1974 and 1977, Central Cass in 1974, Lidgerwood in 1982, 1983 and 1984, and Fairmount has never made it...Go Region 1!
