anyone at the Kindred vs Northern Cass game last night? Is what I'm hearing and seeing on Facebook true about Coach Brandt and her actions during last nights game? Or are parents blowing it up?

I was not there but wondering the same thing. I am sure it will be a little bit of both ways in the end. I am sure there is video of the game some place. Coaches do not need to interact with the crowd. Take care of your team and don't worry about anything else.

Sam Brandt gets a warning in the third when a player goes down from Northern Cass. Camera doesn't show what she did but you can hear her. Some Kindred players have said it was inappropriate. I really think she gets in the heat of moment and doesn't realize what she is doing. Take games when they are up 20 in the forth and she is still yelling and pressing the opposing team. She complains to the refs and IMO is NOT a good example for the kids. It's great to win but you can win with grace. Don't teach these kids to be arrogant and not respect other teams, players & coaches. I watched her grab a girl by the arm at halftime of a game this year and the girl pulled away and walked to the locker room. I guess Sam was crying in the locker room after the game so something happened. The school needs to check into this and have a talk with her if it has bearing. Here is the link:

Coach Brandt is an awful person. Here is the proof.

She was crying in the locker room after being accosted by Northern Cass parents after the game, and feeling unsafe enough to ask for an escort to the bus.

I watched it once, I can't tell what she is yelling.

I'm not sure how this is relevant.

From my vantage point of the play...her warning most likely came from arguing a block/charge call with the official who was 2 feet from the play; hard to hear what she says because of the radio broadcast that's part of the video. Rivalry game and everyone gets heated...I've heard she did respond to the fans and had a 'conversation' (reliable neutral source) across the court with them.

Relevance is a Facebook post that kicked this thing into high gear accused coach Brandt of being an awful person, a bad example, and a coach whom no one should want to have their daughter play for. The Facebook post has since been deleted. This story shows how positive of a role model coach Brandt is.

Seriously???? 1 Article following a state championship and you think this shows her character. I believe it continues to show that Coach Brandt wants it all to be about her and not her kids. This article is further evidence of that. Any coach that openly engages with opposing fans during a game is clearly wanting the attention on him/her and NOT their team. I do not believe Coach Brandt was cheering about an injured player, however, taunting the opposing fans, pointing at the scoreboard, and taking a bow, clearly shows that she wanted the attention in that moment. She should NEVER discipline a player for showboating given the example she is setting. She is coaching one of the finest girls basketball teams in the State of North Dakota. Let the girls get the glory and attention. Stop injecting yourself into their celebration and success in an attempt to overshadow their accomplishments. The minute you purposefully garner attention to yourself rather than your team, you lose respect.

How about Coach Brandt has coached my daughters over a combined 13 seasons of various sports at levels from elementary to varsity and has been nothing but a positive role model. I'm guessing I know her character better than you. She is intense, and I don't always agree with her style, but it appears you are basing your opinion on one complaint from one game.

In rivalry games everyone gets heated. Discussion of block/charge calls will always happen between coaches and officials. Haven't seen a video of the actual incident between the coach and the opposing crowd, but a coach should never engage with the crowd. I have some questions for people to think about:
If this team had a .500 record or worse, would the behavior of the coach be accepted?
Does winning cause people to give more leniency?
Are male and female coaches held to a different standard?

If she did point to the scoreboard and Interact with the crowd she was wrong. No doubt. But her getting a warning from the ref had to do with her questioning the call. Not cheering for a hurt player. So get the story right.

MD71- You have personally attacked another coach on here without any fact checking and "getting the story right" didnt seem to matter then. I post I know is 100% false. I like ur insight and views from games when they are subjective which lately they havent been.

Here's my take from the NC/Kin situation. I believe that Sam B is a good person and a good coach. I know for sure she would never cheer for a injury or want someone on her team to take someone else out. Shes above that, her team is above that. She got caught up in the moment right after the warning and interacted with the crowd, a mistake so what everyone makes them. What happened after is the part that bothers me most, post on social media, fans yelling, confrontations. I know shes a public figure and needs to hold herself to a higher standard, but so should fans. I am all about second chances, moving forward and forgive and forget.

I believe fans should shut their mouths watch the game and leave coaches alone, if you are going to complain about a coaches "response" but yet you openly admit to yelling at coaches when they are talking to officials "MD" you are absolutely part of the problem.

What is lost in in this whole equation is that 2 really good teams played a good basketball game, and 2 NC seniors will have this to remember about "their" senior night. As parents, we get so caught up in wanting whats best for our children. Something that happened right after this game was the two teams got together right at center court and held hands and prayed, thankful for the chance to compete against one another and after everything during the game was forgotten in their minds, that is until we as adults couldn't do the same and let it go. Who's example do we want them to follow? Ours or Theirs?

She went to the Region 1 Coaches meeting and told all the coaches that besides her 5 starters the girls that come off her bench should all be on the Region 1 Tournament Team. Little bit of arrogance there but to each their own. She has also said things about opposing players going as far to say "that girl is skin & bones, does she even weigh 90lbs, she looks so unhealthy". FYI Kids can hear you!

The previous statement is suggesting she wanted more than her 5 starters on the R1 Season Team. Don’t know if this is true or not

My guess would be that Kindred gets 4. They have 3 players that I would deem as unanimous for R1 Season Team and then 3-4 very good role players that benefit from the ‘Big 3’...one of those will likely get added to the team.

I’ve had negative personal experiences with said coach in the past during basketball games (comments and actions)...but with the situation at hand now, I think this has been blown out of proportion by misinterpretation of what happened with the warning (video doesn’t give proof to the other claims).

I think both parties (coach & fans) are definitely in the wrong; it does happen in rivalry games (it shouldn’t but it does).

It is true that she went into region meeting and said they deserve 7 region all region players, and said most of her bench players would start on every team, you no what coach Brandt, go to class A then, you have 50 girls to pick from, most of the other teams have 10 to pick from. I am on board for a three class system, wasn't before but needs to happen.

She’s probably right, she’s arguing for her players. What any coach should do. Don’t like how she acted against NC but I don’t see anything wrong with trying to get her girls on the AR TEAM.

There is nothing wrong with thinking you have players good enough to fill up the Region team, but its pretty arrogant to go into a meeting and suggest everyone else's players aren't good enough. Sounds like she has no humility and no one likes a coach like that.

No I wasn't, I'm just speaking hypothetically, I guess I should've worded that better. I have no affiliations with Kindred or even Region 1 for that matter, but I am a fan of basketball, they have a great team and I would hate for something like this to tarnish them.

And if this is just jealousy on other adults, than that is plain sad and they need to reevaluate themselves.

Like I said before I have ZERO problem with her trying to get as many of her girls as possible on the AR Team. Her actions again NC were childish to say the least. Two separate occasions I have no idea why anyone would even complain about what someone said at a coaches meeting, seems just as childish.
