If North Star loses in the 1st round I wonder if that would push the AA to seed the whole thing.

I'm surprised that FCT isn't in the top 3. I'm not a big girls basketball fan. I believe this FCT group is pretty much the same team that lost in close regional championship games the last two years, except they are now seniors. And the teams that beat them went on to finish 2nd and 3rd at state with their only defeats coming to Bishop Ryan in each tourney. FCT lost their only game of the year in their first or second game of the season in overtime against a strong Richland team. I heard that FCT played the game without their 6'3" girls in that game. I don't know this for certain, it is what I heard.

That being said, I think North Star got a horrible draw and think they will more than likely fall in the opening round. I have heard so many good things about Watford City, I think they are likely the favorites.

Has FCT played any top 10 teams?

No...Richland & Kindred were in-and-out of the poll all year (lost to Richland in 2nd game of season 62-67 in OT; beat Kindred twice: 53-42 & 46-25).
Two of their best wins actually come from MN games (47-40 over 24-2 #10 Wheaton/HN (A) at home; 56-46 over 17-6 Breckenridge (AA) on a neutral court)

Fairmount/CT plays solid defense and is an opportunistic team and has played together for several years. Kvilvang won't tower over Kaehler...Kaehler is 6'3" and will cause Kvilvang some issues. In the end, I still think N. Star gets it done...but it won't be easy.

I could see all 4 seeded teams losing in the first round. I think this is a very balanced tournament and could go a number of ways.

Means anyone of the 8 teams could win it

I don't think they got near the credit they should have by beating Wheaton. Wheaton is VERY good.

A Carrington win would be a large upset IMO.

Carrington has some losses, but their largest deficit was to North Star (at North Star) by 7. They played North Star closer than either Park River or Rugby, and those two games were road games for North Star. I don't see Carrington winning it all, but one or even two wins isn't out of the question.

She played in that game, just was on the bench in foul trouble for a good part of it. If I remember correctly, she might have been hobbled at times as well, but I know she fouled out of that game. I believe Burns, and possibly one other starter fouled out as well.

I meant nothing about the teams and how they were seeded. I just feel all 8 are very close this year and no team is a favorite really. It's a tossup who wins this thing and I think we will see a lot of close, exciting games.

I like when someone stick their neck out and makes predictions, so I will follow your lead :)

Watford City 53 Dickinson Trinity 43
Park River-FL 55 Carrington 44
Fairmount-C-T 57 North Star 51
Rugby 50 Shiloh Christian 49
Semis
Dickinson Trinity 45 Carrington 42
North Star 65 Shiloh Christian 49
Watford City 51 Park River-FL 46
Fairmount-C-T 67 Rugby 49
Finals
Shiloh Christian 49 Carrington 45
North Star 52 Dickinson Trinity 40
Park River-FL 57 Rugby 47
Watford City 57 Fairmount-C-T 53

I think this will be an exciting tourney and hard to predict, but going into the season, I personally had Watford City winning it all, so I will keep it that way, but it will be enjoyable to see how it all plays out.

I prefer not to start a new topic, so I will ask here:
Can someone provide the most likely starters for each team?
Of course I can predict on my own 2 or 3 for each team with no problem , but harder to look at stats and know who is the 4th and or 5th starter, Thanks in advance :)

STATE TOURNAMENT
@ Grand Forks
March 3rd, 4th & 5th

Thursday, March 3rd
G1: #2 Watford City (22-2) vs. Dickinson Trinity (20-4)
G2: #3 Park River-FL (21-2) vs. Carrington (20-5)
G3: #1 North Star (23-1) vs. Fairmount/CT (22-1)
G4: #4 Rugby (24-1) vs. Shiloh Christian (21-3)

Watford City over Dickinson Trinity by 4
Park River over Carrington by 8
North Star over Fairmount/CT by 12
Rugby over Shiloh Christian by 10
(Only thing I really know about these teams is that Rugby beat Velva twice soundly and Velva beat Turtle Lake, and Shiloh Christian barley beat TL twice.) I also do not think that FCT has play a very tough schedule.

These are not confirmed, but my best guess base on what i saw this year.

Rugby - Shea Heidlebaugh, Ashley Schmaltz, Breanna Thompson, Maddie Uhlenkamp, Lauren Kraft
North Star - Macy Kvillvang, Brenna Logie, Peyton Halverson, Stephanie Miller, Madison Borstad
Watford City - Katie Mogen, Ricki Lindley, Alli Mogen, Lea Arndt, Mackenzie Sparby

FCT only going with 4 starters. That's a bold move Cotton, let's see if it pays off.
