Any word yet if the Region 7 tournament will be moved because of the fire at Trinity this morning?

What districts have the best chance of a sweep?
#4 seeds most likely to play in the semis?
#1 seeds most likely not to be playing the championship?

District 2 has best chance - D2-#4 Kindred vs. D1-#1 Fairmount/CT being best game
District 6 has outside chance.
Districts 9 & 15 should easily go 3-1.

I think District 7 probably goes 3-1 as well...Carrington is a #1 seed that will have to play well to get to the Region 4 final as they will more than likely have to go through Lakota/Edmore.

North Star NARROWLY escapes the big upset tonight in Region 4. They were down 8 with 1:30 to go in regulation and ended up winning in OT. HWC led pretty much the whole game and gave it up the end of regulation. Two starters for HWC fouled out in the end of regulation and HWC got outscored 8-2 in OT.

North Star should have an easier time in the semi finals with Rolette/Wolford. The Carrington vs. Lakota/Edmore semi should be good. Carringtons leading scorer (or second leading scorer) left the game in the first quarter today with an ankle injury. Her status for tomorrow is unknown. They will need her in the semi final game.

The finals of this Region should be good...WIth the way North Star played tonight, it is too early to pick a clear favorite.

Interesting side note for all regions: The number one seeds are all still alive. No 4 seeds won. (Beulah was a 5 seed and one) All other winners were 1,2 and 3 seeds.

Just some random thoughts:
Region 1: was thinking Kindred would give more of a battle with FCT; Maple Valley and North Sargent must've been the game of the day; Central Cass must be the team to beat again this year; Oak Grove might make some noise tonight and give CC all they can handle.
Region 2: will Thompson be challenged today or Thursday?
Region 3: looks wide open and we can all watch it on BEK tonight!
Region 4: might come down to the end like Four Winds and North Star two weeks ago on the boys side!

Thoughts on Region 1-4?

Region 1: I still believe Maple Valley came into Region ranked # 4 in state and FCT with 21-2 Record must put them in mix for title? I would not say CCHS is favorite and Oak Grove upset good possibility.
Region 2: Think Thompson will cost
Region 3: Wide open I agree!!
Region 4: Just don't know enough

Region 4 was ugly basketball tonight. For the second night in a row North Star had to come from behind late to win. (Down 10 with under 4 minutes). I was impressed with Rolette Wolford but they just couldn't hold on.

The Carrington vs. Lakota/Edmore game was about as ugly as it gets. 15-14 at half, 42 turnovers for the game, I don't know that either team shot 20% from the field. L/E comes away with the win 33-24. Tomorrow's championship should be entertaining as neither of these teams are at the top of their game right now.

Sorry to be so negative, but I can't say I've ever seen a semi final night in Region 4 quite like this one.

I don't know that I would say the second game was 'ugly'. Rolette-Wolford played very well until 4 minutes in the 4th -- then they fell apart. NS didn't play well by any means, but it wasn't nearly as bad as the first night. NS outscored R-W16-3 in less than 2 minutes. R-W turned the ball over in their backcourt in 5 out of 6 possessions in that stretch.

In Region 4 tonight the Rolette vs. Northstar game was well played game with Rolette loosing their composure down in last few minutes of the game. Rolette coach had used her timeouts earlier in the contest and very much needed to have timeout to adjust to the press applied by Northstar. I believe they should have had somebody else than Wittmayer taking the ball out she should have been primary target to inbound too. She then could have hit one guard streaking down sides or even hit girl back because Northstar was so cheating up on the press. Also at end of the first half Northstar was awarded a bucket before the buzzer and I thought it was after the buzzer. The outside referee made call who was screened by other players plus person putting up the shot. It should have been call of underneath referee who could see person taking the shot. So when I got home tonight WDAZ on highlights of the game had that shot on camera showing the play and if you slow it down the ball is still touching girls hand and buzzer light comes on plus the referee that was making the call could be seen also where he was not in position to see this but made the call. So the game could have even been closer and it was sure momentum breaker giving Northstar something to feel good about going into the half. It may not have changed the game results but sure was call that was missed.
The first game between Lakota-Edmore and Carrington was one of the ugliest games I have seen in long while. Both teams shot poorly and what I heard was Lakota-Edmore shot 24% and Carrington 20% not top flight game but also both team played tight defense and Carrington wanted to play at this pace to keep game close with Engelhorn girl injured and Hochhalter girl playing injured. Lakota-Edmore will need to pick their game up to play with Northstar and they are very capable of playing dominant game.

I think Regional championship could be a very good game both teams match up well both have size and both can play very good defense. I think it will come down to has best shooting night and who stays out of foul trouble.

Region 3:
Kidder County big over LaMoure & South Border over Ellendale on a putback with 7 seconds to go in the game.

In the first game, LaMoure turned it over on their first 5 possessions and Kidder County scored off of most of those turnovers. LaMoure never recovered from that and really struggled shooting the ball all night. I was very impressed with the KC press and their defense, they had a lot of energy and played very good team ball.

The SB -Ellendale game was a good one, SB led most of the game but got into foul trouble late in the 2nd qrtr. Kalli Scherbenske (District 6 SAOTY) fouled out at the end of the 3rd qrtr and Madison Schnabel fouled out late in the 4th qrtr. SB's freshmen stepped up big and did just enough to get the win. I thought the SB girls kept their composure very well and did a great job of finishing the game. Thursday nights championship game should be a good one!

I've seen North Star play a couple times this year and was impressed, however, I was NOT impressed with their two games thus far in Regionals. I agree, Rolette/Wolford played a pretty nice game last night until the end. I really thought North Star was the favorite to win this Region, but right now, this thing is a toss up. Whoever comes to play Thursday will go to State.

Really too bad about Carrington and their injuries. They would've been right in the thick of things had they been healthy. You just can't take away your leading scorer and perform the same without her. The second leading scorer and Senior of the Year was also bothered by injury in this game. The Cards were "banged up" and it showed. They'll have their hands full with Rolette/Wolford in the 3rd place game.

Either way, Region 4 is going to have good representation at State with either North Star or Lakota/Edmore. The game will be interesting as it will pit North Stars strength at guard against L/E's bigger inside game. Hope both teams bring their best game Thursday night and we'll have a repeat of the the boys thrilling Regional final.

Lots of #1 seeds left. We should be in for a great State Tournament.

As for the last-second shot at the half by NS, I went through it frame-by-frame. Yes, she was late getting the shot off -- by 1/12 of a second. You can hardly fault the refs for something that close. You could certainly look through all the video of that game (or ANY game for that matter), and find more obvious missed calls than that one.

Agreed...That was way too tough to tell in real time to be obvious. Could have easily went either way. As a disinterested 3rd party, fan of basketball, I thought the officiating for this tournament was horrific all the way through. And I am one to rarely complain about officiating. Officiating is a thankless job but wow. There was just some obvious calls missed and just plain obvioulsy wrong calls made. And I'm not just talking about a couple calls here.

I too hate to knock on officiating but a certain curly haired, actor-look a like, needs to call the game and let the girls decide the outcome, not himself.
