Guess Vegas was wrong.
Were you at the game? Thompson had been scoring about 67 (including 57 against the number one team in the state) per game and only put 47 on the wall in this game. How did that happen? I bet other region 2 teams would like that formula.

Its called playing a quality team. There are only 3 quality teams in this region: H-CV, Thompson & Grafton; and 1 sleeper: Larimore. When these teams play...the scores will be lower because of the quality of defense that is played.

Patriots lost today too. Upsets happen. HCV may be the better team, but based on previous results Thompson definitely should have been favored.

Were you at the game?

I didn't see it. If I don't have a game of my own to go to I usually get home around 6:00, which is the same time the game was supposed to start.

HCV has good players. Its a hard formula to get mid-season.

Games from last night --

#7 Thompson 72 @ #8 Northern Cass 64 -- Not as close of a game as I would have expected. Both team has great athletes. Weber, Galegher and Ivedal continue to be consistent. Look for them late in season.

#6 H-CV 58 @ Larimore 38 -- What happened here? I thought Larimore would do well with as physical as they play? Will be interesting to see how Larimore responds on Friday when they play Thompson

Hatton-Northwood 46 @ Dakota Prairie 26 -- The DP Disaster continues -- they are taking their learning lumps. Lots of Freshman -- hopefully they continue to improve

Drayton-VE 34 @ #2 Grafton 64 -- just as expected - Gullickson is still their best player. From what I understand they had a couple additions to their lineup?

Midway-Minto 49 @ North Border 39 -- Midway Minto is back on track scoring again

--with all of that, looks like Region 2 has a bit of a break Thursday and have a couple games in

#7 Thompson @ Larimore -- I'd like to see Larimore pull one out
Hatton-Northwood @ May-Port-CG -- Not much of a game to watch but calliing on Mayport for an Upset
Griggs County Central @ Dakota Prairie -- Griggs should take care of this one again
Cavalier @ Drayton-Valley-Edinburg -- I'm going to go with D-VE on this. Gullickson is too much scoring for Cavalier
Park River-FL @ Midway-Minto -- I'll bet on Midway-Minto on this one today. Park River, full of athletes, just hasn't done it quite yet. Still calling them the dark horse of this year though

#7 Thompson @ Larimore -- Who's your money on for this one? Could be a region semi final round matchup

Hatton-Northwood @ May-Port-CG -- Still going to bet on Mayport-CG on this one.

Griggs County Central @ Dakota Prairie -- Let the beating continue on

Cavalier @ Drayton-Valley-Edinburg -- D/VE's guards will out play Cavalier. Post players won't match up either.

Park River-FL @ Midway-Minto -- I'll bet on Midway/Minto for this one again -- Still think that Park River is the Underdog on the district

Let's hear your thoughts --- who's going to win these games?

Whoa whoa whoa...did I read that right? Park River beat Larimore? I think I've called this one in the past saying that Park River could be the Dark Horse in this district. They've come around under their new head coach and after cleaning out some of the riff raff players too.

Good for them.

Saw that Grafton lost yesterday to Lakota? Anybody at that game to give some feedback of how it went? Scoreboard said 59-50 but was it really a 9 point game? Guessing that the Frejie girls took over?

Upcoming games

#7 Thompson @ Hatton-Northwood -- RollTommies - Win by 40
Midway-Minto @ #2 Grafton -- Grafton could be tired after a big game against Lakota

Grafton homer here. Didn't see the Grafton vs Lakota AE game, but I talked to a fairly reliable source that did. Lakota did a great job of breaking Grafton's press. Grafton runs an offense based on transition, so if you can get them into a halfcourt game, you can have success. Physical game as well, which doesn't work in Grafton's favor either. No excuses, Lakota AE played a good game and won. Grafton needs to work on their half court ball.

Region 2 Action tonight:

#6 Hillsboro-Central Valley @ Griggs County Central -- H-CV wins by 30
Park River-FL @ North Border -- Park River after coming off a big win over Larimore
Drayton-Valley-Edinburg @ Midway-Minto -- Midway-Minto after a close loss to Grafton
Cavalier @ Langdon -- Langdon is too athletic

Thoughts?

Past game talk --

Midway Minto @ Grafton -- What happened to that game? Saw there was an final score with Grafton winning by 5. Was that really how the game went? Did Grafton have any injuries or starters sit? This score caught me off guard.

Midway Minto was down 22 at half and outplayed Grafton the entire second half was just to much of a deficit to overcome. Irwin girl had a big game, if you can break Grafton press right now like #63 said they are vulnerable. I still see them as the team to beat in the Region.

Should be a great game Thursday with HCV and Ada-Borup. AB is ranked #9 in Class A with losses to #3 Parkers Prairie and AA Hawley. I can't see the game, but I would love to hear what other think of the game.

HCV could not keep up with the aggressiveness and strength of AB. AB showed HCV a whole other level of basketball. Good outside shooting, tough drives to the basket, tenacious defense. HCV should play AB two more times this year because it was such a good learning experience for them.

Was not at Central Cass vs Grafton game on Saturday but looking at CCHA losing to Crookston, Grafton beating Crookston did not see a Central Cass win like that? Anybody got information or feed back?

This is almost exactly what one of the HCV players told me after the game.

Same story as everyone else that has topped Grafton this year. Beat their press, make them play in the half court, and get physical inside. Offensively, Grafton scores their points off transition. If you make them set up in the half court, they have a tough time creating. Typically though, Grafton would still play strong enough D to keep them in the game, but Breske had a career type of night.

Grafton beats HCV, HCV beats Thompson, Thompson beats Grafton. Pretty darn even if you ask me. The District 3 championship is going to be very important because whoever wins that district, Thompson or HCV, gets to watch the other slug it out with Grafton in the semis. (This is assuming there are no cataclysmic upsets in either District or the regional that take one of the heavyweights out early)

I still think if all three are playing their best, I would go with Grafton, then HVC then Thompson. HVC and Thompson have both closed the gap tho. The District 3 Champ is going to be a huge game bc the loser is going to have to play Grafton in the semis. There wont be a upset with these teams until they play each other.

Just keep on telling yourself that (it's District 3's year) and sooner or later it may work out for you. I don't think you can say with any certainty that it's not up for grabs totally between Grafton, Thompson and H-CV. Whoever gets hot, the way the tourney is officiated, etc. will determine the winner. Grafton, as I'm from their area, should they shoot well from the outside at all, has easily as much of a chance as ANYONE. We'll see I guess, I just wish for some exciting games and no injuries to anyone. Good Luck to all.
