D-4 Grafton will be a tuff team again (better than most will give them credit for) They need to replace four very solid players, but will have the toughest time replacing the point guard position. The defense should be as good as last year, but the offensive side will be down. Just too many points to replace. Plus the leadership will be really hard to replace. There is high potential there - we'll see what the coach can get out of them.

Region title - Will be between Hillsboro / CV and Grafton again. If Hettingsgards get any help, they will be a pretty solid team and my pick is for them to win the region.

1) Central Valley, the Henningsgard sisters, with maybe 1-2 girls coming in to help out from Hillsboro, will be the region favorites. We'll see how next year goes as far as breaks go for the sisters, they seem to get the benefit of the doubt on many calls, but many "name" players do also. 2) Thompson, still has a young team but if they mature at all they may edge Grafton out and make the final. They have quite a bit of talent. 3) Grafton will be OK. They may surprise all of us and win it again. My thinking is that if the Spoilers learn to play together - NOT with certain girls trying to "shoot every time they touch it" - and still play agressive/smart basketball - they will be dangerous. The Spoiler coaches must not allow them to become a one or two scorer team (certain people will definitely get their points no matter what). Those "scorers" need to use their talent to build up others, share the points so to speak, ALL SEASON, no matter who the opponent is or what the score is, to inspire confidence in everyone. Folks still debate past teams failure to get there, to win the big one, but I think Coach Sieben finally learned last year that if everyone was made confident and she let them all "go" in the end it paid off with a state championship. If my above thoughts happen and the stars align, I'd be confident changing my number for Grafton to #1. Go Spoilers!

Jessica Sundbom great inside player with moves and great rebounder will compliment Hillsboro players well!
Madison Lazur inside player (needs some work) with attitude and will not back down from anyone!
Adriana Delvo young but with ball handling skills
Kendra Asket Sr will add minutes to from the bench
Cassie Thompson Sr off bench with speed and ball skills
Ashley Lambert Like her brother, motor will not stop

Just to name a few......:)

Don't sleep on Thompson or Hatton-Northwood. They could come along and shock people.

Hillsboro provides a solid center in Murphy. Although she is young, she has as much varsity time as anyone on the team. she should have a break out year with a supporting cast. Doeden also comes back this year after taking most of last year off with a foot fracture. She is a decent rebounder, and seems to have improved her 10 ft jumper. Pastian brings speed to the team for defense, if she can stay healthy, she will surely see some minutes. Main thing is they need to learn to play as a team.

Didn't HN lose their two best players?

What about some of the teams in D3?

as of today i'd have to say

1.HCV-best point gaurd, best shooting gaurd, best team???
2.Thompson-can they get over their problems with CV, it's been a long losing streak in the tourny's against CV
3.Larimore-plays hard together, but when the 3's weren't falling they were in trouble
4.MPCG-perfect example of how a coach can change a program, the girls had alot of fire at tourny time last season
5.GCC-could get to regionals for the first time in years????
6.HN-They have alot of unknown youth, but prolly will find an identity by mid season and challenge for regions come districts
7.DP-if you thought the drought was bad this summer......

i'd say it begins and ends with Grafton. they lost alot of seniors, but from what i can tell coach has built a solid program from top to bottom. i think they will be ready to make a solid run come tourny time.

I agree. I actually think the Region does too. To be the champs you have to beat the champs.

Other teams in D4

1. Obviously grafton- lots a lot but also return enough to make another run. Their B squad was probably the 2nd best team in the district last year.
2. Valley-Edinburg-Played in the last 2 I believe distict champ games. I see another one this year. Gullickson and Olson will be tough to stop
3. North Border- Lots of young talent here
4-6 not to sure If I would to guess I would go 4. PRFL 5. MM and 6. Cav

There is a big difference between Grafton and everyone else here.
2-6 could be anyones.
It is a little harder to motivate kids I guess because they’ve been pampered so much. We’re in the trophy generation, give ‘em a trophy for 23rd place, make ‘em feel good. Make mom and dad feel good.” Tom Izzo, Michigan State Basketball
