Lots of folks with egg on their face last year picking against Linton-HMB, including you Run. I think they'll be on TV all three nights again.

(Record; QRF Ranking)

Shiloh Christian (19-6; #13) vs. New Town (24-0; #6)
Grafton (23-1; #2) vs. Lakota-Adams-Edmore (21-4; #19)
Linton-HMB (18-6; #15) vs. Bishop Ryan (24-1; #11)
Kindred (24-1; #5) vs. Beach (22-2; #4)

If tourney were to be seeded (via the QRF ranking) it could look something like this:
#1 Grafton (23-1; #2) vs. #8 Lakota-Adams-Edmore (21-4; #19)
#4 New Town (24-0; #6) vs. #5 Bishop Ryan (24-1; #11)
#2 Beach (22-2; #4) vs. #7 Linton-HMB (18-6; #15)
#3 Kindred (24-1; #5) vs. #6 Shiloh Christian (19-6; #13)

Any thoughts on this?

Sounds good to me-rankings of some sort should determine the seeding in the state tournament- there is seeding in districts/regionals, why not at state?

Because the district seeding is based on playing everyone throughout the season. The region seeding is based on how you finish at the district tourney. There's no clear cut way to seed the state tournament because not everyone has seen all the teams play.

I'll go with,

Grafton
Kindred
Ryan
New Town
Beach
Shiloh
Linton
Lakota-A-E

And as far as seeding the state tourney.... can't be done. Keep it the way it is. Look at this years boys state tourney. Everybody complained about the seeding, but it was a great tourney. And Beulah beats 3 undefeated teams to win it all..... storybook stuff, man.

I don't think any team in the state has seen the 32 minutes of pressure that Grafton and Kindred will put on the other teams. They may get through 16 minutes but the next 8 seem to take the toll and the last 8 is usually just don't blow it.

The big issue with both teams will be can they stay out of foul trouble and apply the pressure. Beach likes to press and run so the first round game with Kindred should be a good game. Quick guards give Kindred fits and that is what Beach has, the one thing they don't have is size and that is Kindreds advantage. Once you get to state the teams are better and should be able to handle pressure because they are better teams. You can press Finley Sharon or Larimore and win but in the state you need to win the games in the half court. I think Linton is a bit of a dark horse. They have had some injuries and illness but appear to be hitting their stride at the right time. If you can tell me which Kindred team shows up, the one that played Maple Valley or the one that played Central Cass then I would have an easier time picking.

I haven't seen any of the teams in this tourney other than Grafton. Grafton will run a high pressure full court defense the entire game. They go deep enough to rotate 8 girls on a consistent basis, so they won't wear out. They will try and double team the ball whenever possible and force mistakes. They get to teams by wearing them down, getting them tired and capitalizing. They have 3 legitimate 3 point shooters and 4 legitimate inside girls. They have probably as balanced of a scoring attack as a team can have. 4 girls have the potential to put in 20 on any given night, 2 have the potential to give you 15, and the other 2 can give you 10.

I doubt if anyone will be able to run with them, but like I say I haven't seen any of the other teams. They have to tendency to foul, so free throws will be important to any opposing team. But they go deep enough that it's hard to get them in foul trouble.

#63 you may be deep but if Hannah Thompson gets into foul trouble Grafton is a different team. I still think you are the favorite at this point. Just don't fall to sleep in the first round because you aren't playing Carrington and you are looking to Friday night.

Hannah definititely runs it, no doubt. The team stays the same if you change anyone else, but when they change her, the complection is different. She normally has a pretty good head on her shoulders and knows to keep herself out of the 4th foul. And hopefully, Grafton has enough experience with getting beat in tournaments to realize you don't look past anybody. :) If not, I'll remind the girls what place Red River got in State Hockey. 8)

I am hoping for a Grafton-New Town semi final game. New Town is very good at setting the tempo of the game. A pressing team could easily get burned in the backcourt by that team.

I agree, I would love to see that matchup as well (hopefully both teams get by the first day). I'm guessing New Town is the type of team that likes to push the ball up the floor?

pushing the ball is one thing but Grafton changes ends of the court better than any girls team I have seen all year. Unless they have major issues shooting the ball they are the favorite and it is a crap shoot for the next 7 because so many of the teams are new and nobody knows how they will react to the state experience. Just look at Beach the last 2 years in the first round. They got taken to overtime by thompson who was playing 8th graders and then won it. Last year they got blitzed by Kenmare and settled for 5th. Both years they were undefeated and the favorite but had a bad night to open the tournemant. Got lucky the first year not so the next.

Plain and simple.... it is tourney time so anything can happen. Any of these teams can make a run and any of them can go in the tank. I have seen Grafton and Kindred play. They have really good athelets and they can both can really defend but I don't think either one of these two teams are playing the best basketball of the year right now. Kindred won the region by playing one really good half of basketball. During the middle of the season, I don't think anybody could beat them but now it is up to the girls to see if they can ramp it up again.

I think their biggest strength is that they have good court awareness and I don't turn the ball over which can frustrate a pressing team. With that said, I still think Grafton would have the edge because of depth and experience.

I don't think Region 1 is so weak that a team only needs to play 1 good half to win a trip to State.

Anybody know much about Lakota-A-E? What's their style? Who to watch? R4 people, what do you have to say about your rep at state?

Ive watched them play about 5 times. They have a very good team the Fredjie sp? girls are both very good, especially Fallyn inside. If their guards can handle Graftons pressure she will eat them up inside.

I think the Shiloh and New Town game could be a very interesting match up. I watched Shiloh play against Ryan earlier in the year and they have one of the best guards I have seen in a long time. She was able to pretty much score at will against the giants in the middle for Ryan. New Town is a young team and this could affect them through out the tournament. They have an 8th grader who plays significant minutes, she seems to be the X-factor when it comes to getting them up and down the floor and fired up. They will play hard and never quit. Even with an undefeated season they have been tested a few times when I saw them play in the district and regional so they know how to fight back in win tough games. Should be a great match up, and looking forward to hopefully a successful team out of Region 8 this year.
