On TV from left to right you'd see the Grafton, Kindred, Shiloh, and Linton sections. Many are coming for their game and leaving. It's the same on the side you don't see. Might look better tonight.

It is a little harder to motivate kids I guess because they’ve been pampered so much. We’re in the trophy generation, give ‘em a trophy for 23rd place, make ‘em feel good. Make mom and dad feel good.” Tom Izzo, Michigan State Basketball

Grafton Played very well and they did play well. Those kids worked hard and got their dream that they worked hard to acheive. I was not impressed with the Fans of Grafton..... or the coach leaving in her main starters and players even after Linton put in the full second string on the bench... Grafton kept bombing three's... and then the fans rush the court and run over the official that had to be helped off the court...
I was hoping they would win but after all that stuff..... well

maddog: I agree with you on Grafton girls playing really well. Also, just heard about the ref thing later that night, WOW , that is too bad. No reason to rush that fast that you end up hurting someone. Team was not going anywhere!!! PS: What happen to your Kindred team????

Kindred did not put together a full game. Beach did a great job of coming out and playing Zone and taking off the press to slow us down in the second half. He never plays Zone. Beach just said if you are going to beat us it will have to be with your 3 point shooters and Kindred just could not hit the shots... 5-26.... and when you can not score you can not get the full court pressure and get the game sped up. Second game they were just crushed.. played late... the dream was over.... and I don't know if the girls really wanted to play. 3rd game came out and played really well like the team that they can be and half way through the 3rd started playing some other kids and it really made a game of it in the end.
My hats of to the coach of Beach... He has been there forever and he did a great job. Even in the 3rd place game, he went to his bench and played all his kids and even let the girl with cancer take the Tech free throws.... I think the Grafton coach should take some notes.....

Spoiler fan here. Ya, I admit, that storming the court deal got a little carried away. A couple younger kids got knocked down as well. Galloway (from Park River) was the ref. He stopped by the Grafton hopitality room after he got checked out and I talked with him. He said he is experienced enough to know to get out of the way when fans storm the court, but he just didn't think it would be that crazy since Grafton was ahead by so much. He said that as the group of kids were coming at him, he tried to jump over a little kid (7 or 8 year old) to avoid running into her and tripped. While he was on the floor, one of the bigger kids (high schoolers) accidently kicked him in the head when they ran by. Bad deal. I'm just glad nothing more serious resulted.

In retrospect, it would have been a good idea for a couple of adults (or security) to go down with a couple minutes left to go in the game, and tell the kids standing on the end line to go easy when they rushed the court. Hindsight is always 20/20. The Grafton/ST kids that were on the end line are all good kids. They weren't trying to hurt anybody, they just weren't thinking. Imagine that, teenagers not thinking. :)

Grafton didn't sub out at the same time Linton did, but I think she did sub out at the next available whistle. Maybe Coach Sieben could have done it at the same time, but I think she wanted to give the Spoiler starters (mostly seniors in their last game) their own round of applause.

Another thing I found really entertaining is some of the kids for Minot Ryan came running out in the middle of the court and were hugging the girls on holding up their buddies on their shoulders just to get on TV.

And she did not sub at the next timeout... she even put one kid in with 24 seconds left to play. I understand she was excited and under pressure but if you look at class coach's, they will reward the kids that have spent the whole year on the bench.... if she thinks it was a reward or something special for the seniors to stay on the floor and run up the score... well... she needs to go and talk to somebody like Old Bob from Beach....

it was the state championship, the teams were there for a reason. I do think she could have subbed them out a little earlier then she did but it shouldnt be that big of a deal

Old Bob is the same guy that hung 135 on Ray last season so I don't think that he is that great a source. So they played an extra minute. Most coaches don't pull the starters with 3 minutes so she may have been caught off guard. The starters were off the court about few trips later and she pulled them all at that time.

If I'm wrong on when she subbed out the seniors, I will stand corrected. I'll have to check it out on Tivo tonight. But, in reference to your comment about kids spending the whole year on the bench, all the girls that were subbed in at the end of the game were full time starters on the JV. The Spoilers had 8 girls who rotated minutes on varsity (basically played full time), and all the rest of the kids who were at state played a full time JV schedule.

i will have to back up the grafton coach on this one - this is the state championship- leaving your seniors in the game until the last minute is fine by me- this is their very last time to be on the court. i don't think the lead was so big that coach sieben is required to take them out with 5 minutes or even 3 minutes- its her decision to decide when to call off the dogs. if they were in the 3rd 5th or 7th place game i bet she plays it different. JV kids have their season, this is the varsity season. if it's that touchy of a subject, then lets just have a rule when a team is up by so much in the 2nd half, we just stop the game, so no one gets offended (we can't handle losing anymore i guess). i've always thought sieben was one of the classiest coaches around and obviously her peers thought the same in voting her coach of the year.

Well I guess I was wrong..... She is a class act. The JV players that work all season and are the future of the program get a chance to play in a State Champion game.... they should not play and get any experience and I guess as a Senior I want to play until we are up over 40 because 30 isnt enough and it is my last game. You guys are right....

Maddog, your guy at Kindred played a girl with a varsity jersey in a c-squad game this year so they could beat try to beat central cass. Not sure who even won the game but what is your take on that since you seem to want to inject your opinion. He also put his starters back in vs Lisbon in the regions and they were up 20?
In that game she could have pulled her starters at half time and they still win so getting all bent out of shape makes no sense. This isn't YMCA ball and everyone gets a medal for playing.

Well Wolves65 you are way wrong.... not one girl who plays varisty was played in the C Squad game. They are all freshman girls that play. Two Sophmores sit on the bench and play a couple minutes a game and they do not dress JV. A couple freshman fill out the bench and got in when we were up big at the end of games. I was at the game and know all the kids so you are way off. Yes Kindred did win. The only loss the C squad had was against Lisbon.
Why do you want to bring this to a Kindred vs. Central Cass? I have no problem with the Central Cass program. I have many friends that live in the both Kindred and Central Cass.
I was not talking about the Kindred coach, I was talking about Grafton....
Also the Lisbon game the JV players were not playing well at all and he pulled them and then put them back in.
