Run, I agree with a lot of your picks except I think Kindred, Hazen, and New Town will go from their respective regions.

Kindred/Central Cass could go either way

I just don't see Hazen (or any other team for that matter) staying with Beach in Region 7

New Town probably will go...I just feel an upset is on the horizon in that region and Watford City is the likely culprit to pull that upset

Another D2 sweep of D1? Is D2 that much better than D1 this year?

I think so...Milnor vs. Maple Valley could probably go either way and I think Northern Cass is stronger than North Sargent (even with Whitney Ward out with an ACL injury).

Is this the same feeling you had last year when you picked them? I kid, sorry.

I think Ellendale is a small favorite vs South Border, but if SB pulls it off it looks like it might be a sweep for the 3rd straight year for D6.

Similar. :D You got me Flip. What can I say, I believe in these girls. There is a lot of talent there, if they can put it all together, they can be dangerous.

Region 3:

Would love nothing more than to see Ellendale pull it off. I watched them in the District championship...and I don't see it this year for them. They didn't seem to gel as a team in that game-- and hopefully it was just a fluke for them. It didn't seem like they pushed the ball like I have seen them do in the past. I would imagine their shooting % wasn't great. I have seen them shoot a lot better than that also.

Going with experience-- Napoleon vs. LHMB in the finals. Linton's experience will be huge in that game. I don't know that Napoleon has an answer for Schneider in the post (I heard she was out some of the year with an illness?). If the Imperial guards can be successful in that press- it will keep it out of her hands. I guess we will see.

Good luck to Ellendale though. Would like to see a D5 team hang in there and I feel they are the only contender to be able to do that. I believe they beat SB twice during the year (the first time, SB was short several players). Correct me if I'm wrong- but I believe they lost to them 1st round of Regionals last year. Hopefully that helps- I know I'd see a little more motivation (of course, a different group of players).
On another note-- very deserved COY for Coach Herman. Losing five starters and back to the 'ship game. Congrats.

Ellendale loses to South Border in the 1st round again. This is their third straight year going one and done in regionals under Coach Herman... Seems to me that he doesn't know how to utilize his own talent (which he has been blessed with for years now) It takes a team to win, but sometimes you gotta rely on your studs to take you the extra distance. I'll use this dynamic (Although I'm not directly comparing Napolean to Ellendale players) to illustrate my point. You know when Napolean comes at you that Sheridan, Jangula, and that point guard(can't remember name) are going to get their points. This is Nap's identity and they still manage to play great team ball. Ellendale has NO identity. There studs who, IMO, are/will be for the next two years, Bommersbach and Mertz. These two have been averaging maybe 8 shot attempts since Ellendale got into this funk toward the end of the season. I'm not saying they should be ball hogs, but they are the scorers and they need the ball in their hands and they need to put up those double figure shot attempts night in and night out if Ellendale wants to go far in the next couple years. If they do this, they will draw extra attention from defenders (like Sheridan and crew do) and then they can pass to the "role" players for the open buckets. This has got to be their identity if they want to win. I've seen too many "good" teams slip through Ellendale's fingers in the last couple years and this is my plea. You have to let your talent shine in big moments. It's about team ball, but it's also about knowing your role on the team. Herman and Fuller play great defense and Hack plays decent in the low post, but their roles should be primarily defense and hitting open shots off a pass from Mertz or Bommersbach. We'll see what next year brings us for Ellendale, but if this isn't done than we'll see another one and done at the region for Ellendale.

Is this a slam at Coach Herman? No. This is constructive criticism and me as a fan calling it like I see it. He may have all those district coach of the year awards and a couple district championships, but I'd take a trip to state for that any day. District 5 is weak. Ellendale has had more talent over the last couple year. They haven't won because of superb coaching. They've won mostly on talent alone. The coaching needs to come through for them to make it far in regionals. My advice, ride those studs into the postseason and give this team some identity!

P-B-K has improved quite a bit throughout the year (only 8 girls on the roster). Corey Mack has done a good job over the years & the kids work hard on the floor. I hope I'm wrong, but I think the ride might come to an end tomorrow night against a very good Napoleon team. Good luck Rebels!!!!!!!!

Predictions:
Region 1---Central Cass (Kindred is right there---tossup)
2----Grafton (Central Valley will make it interesting in the final)
3----Linton-HMB (Lions defense will be the difference)
4----Carrington (closest game against 3 other semifinalist was a 24 point win over Lakota in dist. championship). Also beat Lakota by 25, Midkota by 29, North Star by 30---& that means nothing now!!
5----New Salem-Almont (upset pick over Grant County)
6----Velva (Bishop Ryan a year away)
7----Beach (have the same thing going in region 7 that Cgtn. has in region 4)
8----Title game is tomorrow night (New Town joins the rest of class "B" girls with a loss) Watford City goes back to state!!

Run- just wanted to make a quick comment on your region 6 semifinals prediction. In their respective district champ games, Rugby beat Velva, and ORCS lost to Ryan by more than 30. I think Rugby takes that one, and since Velva's starting lineup still isn't healthy, I think they will be much less competitive than 4 points against Ryan.

Sounds like you need to get into coaching.

Sounds like a classic excerpt from Disgruntled Parent 101. I don't know much about Ellendale's school, but I'm guessing the main doors are open during day for you to stop in and say it to his face. Isn't DRN located in Ellendale? If so, I'm betting that the phone lines are working too. It's obvious that the internet connection is good, as it's pretty easy to type an anonymous post bashing a coach and hitting the enter button. Nothing like having coaches turn a 3 month job into a 12 month job and then having to waste two minutes reading this garbage. Go to NFHS.com and type in "The Role of Parent in Sport." It might be the best 20 minutes of your day.

I apologize for the rant, but it's just my opinion on a topic like this.

First off, it was a constructive criticism and a respectful one in my opinion. You obviously didn't read what I said. Second off, I'm not a disgruntled parent... just a fan of the game and the Cardinals. You know what happens when you assume buddy. Excuse me for for expressing what I think on the current situation in Ellendale. Didn't know you were the referee on issues like this. If you want to see bashing, I can show you bashing. This was me calling it like I see it. Sometimes the truth hurts and the talent isn't being utilized in Ellendale. It would take a blind a deaf man to not realize that! I broke it down and I did it as respectively as I could. My main point being that the talent is under utilized. I appreciate your input though, but I'll still be sleeping peacefully tonight knowing I wrote that and this.
