Thoughts and predictions for the matchup of IMO the top 2 teams in region 6?

Bishop Ryan has not been tested, pretty soft schedule. Velva's one loss was to Carrington. I would predict Velva 55 - 47. Velva run's hard, don't think Bishop Ryan can keep up with them.

ya I think it will be interesting to see if Ryan's lack of big game experience will affect them against a team that has that experience

Don't know much about Velva. I do know that Ryan's height will be a challenge for a lot of teams. Their weakness is definitely guard play. It is fairly suspect. If Velva has some good guards I see them winning this one.

Height is one thing, ability is another. I don't think Ryan has it in them to handle a good defense, they just haven't been challenged enough this year, but we'll see. Velva & Ryan both have room for improvement, but I think a lot of that is due to week schedules in their districts and region. I was at Velva's game vs Carrington this year, and they played really well, scrappy defense and in their face all night. Come to think of it, I saw some of Ryan's players and their coach at the game also....on a Monday night, cheering for Carrington. A little crazy. Velva and Ryan have a long rivalry history in all sports, so I think the gym is going to be packed on both sides. I heard local station KHRT.com is carrying the game linked through their website. Will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Velva won 61 to 57. Velva was down by 12 points at one point in the first half. Switched up their D in the 4th and scored on major free throws in the last 5 mins. Great game to watch.

Ryan was terrible at the freethrow line like 2/13 or something. They had the lead pretty much until the end. I also think that if Ryan would have beat Velva, they might be ranked #1 since Kindred and Carrington have both lost.

Maybe, but they didn't. And the ones missing most of the free throws were the two posts who just really aren't good free throw shooters, so I don't think that can even be an excuse.

Kindred is undefeated...

New Town is also undefeated if that logic wants to be used.

I believe Emma Keller, who is one of their best players didn't play in districts due to injury. Not sure if she is going to play in regionals

I see Ryan defeated Velva in the Regionals by 20.
I guess you can put this thread to rest.

Just a little info on this regional semi game between BR and Velva. Velva's top 2 scorers played injured last night. This was only Keller's 2nd game after coming back from a leg injury during the regular season, which also was the reason why she didn't play during districts. Newman had a knee injury from last week, which greatly affected their inside game, both offensively and defensively. AND hate to do it, but the reffing was very inconsistent. Both of BR's posts should have been in foul trouble in the 3rd quarter if they would have been called on over-the-back calls. Just needed to clarify. It's tough for a team to not have their 2 top players at 100% on the floor, but even tougher when they're playing against the refs. I wouldn't rule out this Velva team for next year.

Anbody who watches Velva play should not question the refs. They play hard nosed defensive basketball. Which I like by the way. They are very aggressive and could always be called for more fouls than they get. It was a good game and calls were missed both ways as with most games.

was at the game, only one really bad call on the over the back even the ryan girl laugh about it down the court. There were two bad things that did go on, Velva at under the thre minute make pulled the starters and Ryan played their starters the whole game. The Ryan students cheering, they did not cheer foe their team the cheered to harass Velva students. Thought that was the only poor things that really happened in the game.

That is student sections. The louder and meaner the better. In my opinion, sportsmanship pertains to the players, not the students when heckling.

As far as fans, the louder & the better, Velva. The meaner, ryan. but that's just their private school demeanor. the velva student section was yet again clever and entertaining while showing great support for their team on tuesday. i love watching them at regionals. and yes, the ref card gets played too often, but this was one of those situations that really made you scratch your head and wonder what in the world could they possibly have been thinking that 2nd half. agreed that velva's injuries hurt them greatly but it was great to see the players playing so hard throughout the game and being able to say they ended the season with class. hearing the velva student section call the ryan coach out about keeping the starters in was a great moment.

Lets see PigskinDynasy complains about student body's demeanor (fans), the game officials (refs), coaching decisions (coaches), but best of all indicates the Velva players ending the season playing with class - to bad the same cannot be said for Pigskin's post. Well done GONDPREPS, it seems so easy for a parent, coach, or uneducated fan to blame everyone else for a loss. What a poor example for the players. I bet if you asked the girls who played in this game, they wouldn't blame anybody but themselves. Its hard to have injuries at the end of the year, but that's life. We all love watching kids play hard and with class, but don't tell them its the refs fault when you're sitting around the kitchen table, have some class and teach them whats right. Loosen up when it comes to kids cheering in the stands. What grade are you in? As far as the refs go, I think all of Velva has a problem with officials. I saw a letter written by a Velva coach to the NDHSAA that claimed to be getting picked on by all officials. I guess the excuses run downhill in Velva.
