Nothing against Central Cass but whoever voted for anyone but Carrington for the Number One team in the state should have their voting rights taken away. Carrington is very good this year and at least at this point in the year no one else compares. Also there isnt any other decent teams in the state so we vote for Stanley in the first poll even if they are 0-2. If a team is very dominant and they play two very good teams but get beat i can understand it. But Stanley isnt that team.

That is pretty harsh words against a team from Central Cass that has been number 2 in state two years in a row? I have not seen either team play a lot but I know they play each other (carrington vs cchs) Jan. 13th so that should be very interesting I suppose. I know CCHS has a 6ft plus girl to match up with Thompson so maybe she is not such a factor?

Not being harsh, didnt say anything against central cass. Carrington is that good. They have pretty much everyone back from a team that was pretty dominant last year. If that 6 ft girl is experienced and skilled you could be right.

Polls are joke, nobody cares abou them, but parents. Coaches could careless about them because they have no meaning. Now only if we could straighten out the all-state voting. Why in the world would be let media vote for all-state. Its a complete joke.

hold on rock, it is early yet to be giving the trophy to Carrington. If that was the case last year then Central Cass would have won the trophy last year after they beat Carrington in January. Sounds like Midkota all over again in volleyball, they beat Central Cass in September and didn't close the deal in NOvember but still heard the statement that the best team got 3rd place. The best team is who is the last one standing at the end of the year not who get voted #1 in December or wins a game in Jan-feb..

Stanley is getting votes because most people don't know that the Pappa sisters and Dewalder are not out for basketball. they are a totally different team now.

# 3 Central Cass plays # 7 Central Valley on Tuesday. It should be a good early season test for both teams!

Central Cass wins by 10 - 56 to 46.

Yeah, let's take the media out back and kick the tar outta them. That'll make you feel better. It seems like no matter what they do, your favorite player never gets voted on. It's too bad. The coaches should vote all-state like in football when a standout sophomore or a kid with a small attitude problem, but with loads of talent misses out on the team in favor of a barely above average senior. Yeah, coaches aren't biased at all.

Sarcasm aside, it should be noted that the all-state teams belong to the media, like the Mr. basketball award.

If the coaches want to do their own team, I'm sure they're welcome to. Just like if the media wanted to do their own all-state football team, they could. Postseason awards are overrated anyways.

Postseason awards are overrated to those who don't get them. To those who do get them, it is quite an honor.

Question: if they are overrated, why do so many people squawk so loud about them?

I didn't say they aren't important. I just said they're overrated.

A great question, Hinsa. I wish I had an answer for you. Let me know when you find one.

Not trying to be a pain. The obvious answer to me is because they ARE important to most people. I was just pointing out that the ones that usually complain about them are the ones that think they got cheated out of the award and they tend to try to lessen their disappointment by downplaying the importance of the award.

Yeah, I understand where you're coming from, Hinsa. My thing is just that all-state and that stuff, that's all extra stuff that serves as a fun by-product of playing the game, winning and accomplishing team goals.

If you're good, you're good. You shouldn't need a bunch of newspaper guys, tv people and radio voices making sure everyone knows your good by making sure you get all-state. If that's the high point of your season or happens to be what you value most, then that might serve as a good reason as to why your team didn't get very far.

Again, not saying they're not important. Only saying they should be thought of as fun by-products of playing the game.

Just another reason why polls shouldn't be looked at like they are the gospel is because only sportswriters that are members of the Associated Press can vote. so a lot of small town sport writers that cover these small towns and actually know the teams don't have a chance to vote.

Hate to break it to you...
Sportscasters and sportswriters who are members of the NDAPSSA have the opportunity to vote. AP membership is not required. Voting is not limited to the larger communities.

Its hard to tell how far down Bishop Ryan moves (or how high up Velva moves)...IMO it is dependant on how the #6 Kindred vs. #1 Central Cass matchup goes on Saturday (also the #1 Central Cass vs. RV Linton-HMB game tonight). Saturday night we'll have a better idea where teams may move to.

Central Cass has some very interesting and poll changing games in the next several weeks. Tough schedule to end the year. Hope it does not get them exhausted for end of season!?
