Pretty much agree all the way around here. Northern Cass could potentially push Kindred for the #2 spot in the Region. I think they'll be a little better this year.

Sticking with the Northern Cass theme here, I'll add another player from NC to the "players to watch" list. Bree Olson. Super quick point guard who defends pretty well and has pretty good scoring ability. She had a pretty good year last year as a freshman and could take a big step this year as a sophomore.

I don't really think Northern Cass will be a huge threat to the Region. The top 2 threats are Kindred and Central Cass. Milnor and North Sargent from District 1 will be in there as well.

R4F what did you think of that Hawley team? I haven't seen them play, but by their scores they seem to be great defensively.

Yeah they are very quick also which causes teams to struggle. The game tonight was close until midway through the 2nd quarter when Hawley went on a 9-0 run that pretty much sunk Oak Grove. Then 2nd half was all Hawley (33-14).

I would move North Sargent up on this list. They are not a bad team... they have only lost to 2 ranked teams (Kindred and CC) and stuck with CC until the 4th quarter last night. I think Maple Valley is surprising some people this year too and are no longer the bottom feeders that they have been the past couple of years. Heck, they might even make it to regionals this year! I believe their only loss is to Valley City in overtime. Run, you want to make a new list?

Does Maple Valley face Northern Cass in the Barnes County Tournament? MV has had a few girls step up to support Nudell, and could make it a battle for 3rd in District 2.

This could be a good game. I don't think Bree Olson from NC will be playing yet (sprained ankle), so that will hurt them. MV just might win this one.

Just for clarification, the game is Friday, not Thursday. Boys ran Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday due to VCSU needing the floor for a Friday game. The tournament is typically Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and the girls will use the regular schedule.

Thanks...I'll make that switch on the schedule

I would really like to see an upset by Maple Valley over Northern Cass, and then a rematch with Valley City. MV is a tiny school located between to big schools like Valley City and Central Cass, and every 4 or 5 years they rebuild. They have a great Class B tradition...no whining, no big transfers, etc.

who are the big transfers? Tradition is what is going to doom them in the end. They should be playing all sports with ENderlin like they do football.

Both schools are plenty big enough to support separate bball and vball teams. Heck, they're even big enough to both have 9man fball teams. And being close enough to Fargo, both will probably grow a bit, too.

Maple Valley could have fielded a 9-Man fb team, but Enderlin struggled w/ numbers. The merge put them in Class A. Also, I said there are NO big transfers. This young team is improved because some of the players put in a lot of time into it w/ no expectation of wins. They now face Valley City...no whining that they have to play a big school. Their boys just won it too.
