Wow, Schwab you bored at school or what?!? That's a lot of work to put all that together. Only problems I see are some of those 7-12 enrollments are actually 9-12 enrollments. Entered wrong when administrators put them into the directory online. There are actually quite a few like that that would skew the class sizes a bit higher.

Well I made sure I used the correct number to average the class sizes, the only thing that might be off is the Regional Average and the State average, I used the "assumption" that all districts and regions have the same amount of teams in them. But it should be pretty close, and I believe I included all of the enrollments in all of the co-ops. If I have some numbers off please let me know!

(The only ones that didn't come directly off of the NDHSAA numbers was Watford City (for some reason their enrollment number wasn't listed, so I used the one in the hoopster and FCT's (Campbell-Tintah is in MN, so I found their numbers on the MN site).)

Just looking in Region 4, I know Minnewaukan (55 7-12) is actually their 9-12 enrollment. Maddock (68 7-12) and Warwick (79 7-12) are both 9-12 enrollments as well. That will change the class size of those schools/co-ops. Looking through the other regions I'm pretty sure Rugby is 210 9-12 and not 7-12. Sawyer, Powers Lake, and Burke Central all should be 9-12 as well. And you said you found Watford's enrollment would be 190 in 9-12 and not 7-12 based on their numbers in the football plan. Like I said before, not your mistakes but they are just entered wrong to the NDHSAA site and the hoopster is not usually 100% correct either.

well I know powers lake is a really small school, so their numbers make sense. I don't know tho, they seem right to me.

Not that this is a big deal, but I'm bored at work today. Got to the ND DPI site and search DEN912. That's the 9-12 enrollment figures that the school have to send to the state for funding so they are accurate back at the start of the school year, so within a few now I'm sure. Only problem is the private school aren't on there. That will give you some extra homework tonight Schwab...haha (I WAS right on the schools I pointed out, you still can't win an argument with me going back to the high school days!)

Region 2 is about the same as what I got when I figured it out using DPI numbers. Within 1 or 2 kids per class.

It also shows that out of the 8 schools that made it too state, 1(grafton) is over an avg. of 70 spg (students per grade). 1(new town) is over 50 spg. 3 (Linton, Standing Rock, Bishop Ryan) are over 40 spg. 1 (oak Grove) is over 30 spg. And 2 (Dickinson Trinity and North Star) are over 20. 3 of the schools being private, it's sad there is only North Star that is truly the only "small" school to make it.Grafton's number amaze me!.

All seriousness aside...good work schwaby!

Grafton's numbers amaze you? Why would you be amazed that when ND had a cutoff of 325 in order to play in the class B ranks that one of the schools in class B has 265 kids? Doesn't seem that amazing to me.

I'm wondering what you mean. Didn't do it to downplay the accomplishments of the teams who made the state tournament. If anything I did it to show how the small schools with small numbers are working their butts off to compete against the big schools.

Gotcha. Actually, Grafton is losing enrollment like most rural communities. Twenty years ago class sizes in Grafton were averaging about 100 per grade. Now, some classes in the grade school are below 50 per grade. Grafton was able to move down to class B basketball a few years ago when high school enrollments dropped below the 325 mark. Grafton is still a big hockey town though. The normal mix of the boys that play high school sports is 50 or 60% hockey, 30 or 35% BB, and 10 or 15% wrestle. And like most schools, only about half the kids play sports. So in a normal class of 65, half are boys, and half play sports. So that means on average about 9 play hockey, 5 play BB, and 2 wrestle.

But it was brought up in another post that Trinity's enrollment is actually 160 in 9-12, meaning 40 kids per grade. Not huge by any means, but changes the perception of under 30 per class.

Districts were held in Hazen, on years when the regional was held in Hazen or Beulah... they still won and these kids on the roster have been in the school since grade one and the school doesn't take advantage of our states "open enrollment" policy like many schools do.. I'd say they have a pretty good program and I understand why some would be jealous.
