1976 LaMoure- won every game at state by 25 plus, the only team i would say that "walked through state".

Except for Edinburg in 88' and North Border in 2001

If they only won by nine points i wouldn't exactly calling that walking through the state tournament.

are you sure?, There was a slight ray of hope When Jonathan Lindalh finally got sick of the fact that a 5'9' Tryan shut down his 6'9' brother and hit a couple threes to close it up with in 10 or so in the fourth, but in all reality Cando got Shhlact by Eagles BAD!!

Didn't they get 7th?

Yeah they lost in a nail biter to Minot Ryan in the first round.

so then wouldn't the team that beat them in the consolation round be better?

Cando led 6-0 to start the game. Cando led 15-8 late in the first quarter. North Border's big second quarter was the result of a beyond-half-court three-pointer at the first quarter buzzer by Warren Eagan. That's when the tide turned. North Border nearly coughed up a sizable lead when it got within five points at 55-50, but they didn't give up the lead. There you go...

Cando is real lucky they Made it Past Mike Sunderland and the boys (AAEMO) to get out of the regional tourn., although North Border had their hands full against Central Cass, (Olson Twins) coached By the Big man Vonesh, North border had a much better showing at State B, The only player on Candos team that was better than any one player from North Border was Evan L. but Pound for Pound North border had the advantage and thats why they won, it was not a fluke, when Cando beat them by 20 in Walhalla early on (I was there) they were playing in the town were the Lindahls had spent many years in Evans early years and the Old man was jacked,
they were playing against a team that had just merged together, that same team, I have to say Gelled quite well and by the end of the season were playing together real well. have to say Dennis Delude was spectacular!!!!!!!!!!

central cass, central valley, ok, wow!! the olsons could pass for twins, and bottom line is North Border was better than Cando in 2001 and had an awsome showing at state, Are you really going to try and take that away from the Champs??????????????????????????

1987/88 Glen Ullin Rattlers. Lead by Doug Gerving, Corey Wilhelm, Jeff Meissner. Lost to Ben Jacobsons eye's closed bank shot.

1984 Glen Ullin Rattlers. Lead by Kevin Gerving. Lost to Belfied in Region finals. Both of these squads competed in the Class A Holiday tournaments. The 87/88 team took home the title that year against the class a schools.

yep the three pointer is what won North Border the game (come on), the tide turned and the Titanic sunk,

How did they get a sizable lead off of one three pointer, you mean after, a beyond the half court shot Cando just threw in the towel ,with a Kid that was 6'9" and a team that had harldy lost any games, if any all year long,
to tell you the truth those two team would beat any team that has won the state tounament since!! period.
it was a heavey wieght boxing match with tremendous talent !!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not trying to take anything away from them. I was cheering for North Border to beat Cando. I simply felt the need to correct the inaccuracies in your post. Having the correct information does matter.

I was told they were twins, and cass and central was a mistake, an irrelevant one at that, Sorry

Did you ever see that team play?? No team even gave them a game in the regular season. After they lost in the first round, im sure they were dissappointed and played down from their potential the next two rounds. They came out overconfident in the first round and overlooked Minot Ryan. This team was one of the best not to win it, trust me.

It was the 1986 GU rattlers 23-1 lost to belfield 74-72 in regional Championship. Beat Mandan and Bismarck St. Marys that season both qualified for State A.
Kevin Gerving - all state
Doug Gerving All state
Corey Wilhelm All state
Jeff Meissner - played at UND W
and a host of others that filled the 5 hole.
In 1987 The Rattlers made it to state and lost to eventual champ Mayport in 1st round at the buzzer. That team beat then Class A grafton by 14 (Herbel, Krajewski(LSU), Jacobson) that finished third at the state class A.
Starters were the same with exception of K. Gerving. All totaled for those 2 years 49-2.
Glen Ullin did go to state in 1984 and finished 4th with a lesser team than these. All totaled 1983-1991 GU had 9 straight district Champs (state record) 3 regional champs and 6 regional champ appearances not a bad run when regions had alot more teams in them at the time. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

I agree Schwab. I was at the Ryan game. All of that height created mismatches that favored Ryan. Lund and Wessler could not be stopped and great guard play is what wins. They were to fast and smart. So no, I do not think they were the best not to win it. Trust me. Great teams do not have mismatches that are not in favor of them.

Certainly not the best team to finish second...but a sentimental favorite would be Epping...We will never see that David vs Goliath again because of todays alphabet league.....

Could'nt you say TLM against Grafton was kinda a David vs Goliath?? Grafton has five times as many kids in High School than a TLM. (250-50).

you could use it that way. but its tough because Grafton wasnt an overwhelming favorite. they might have even been a small underdog.

actually they loose some to hockey too, and they never have been, lets say a basketball dynasty type town, they have produced some solid ball players but have always been vulnerable to even the smaller local towns since going class B. where as TLM and any small class B town, when the ducks fall in a
row can produce a powerhouse.
AK coming on strong inside and White showing up at state big, along with the gaurds that could shoot, not to mention a great coach was just to much for TLM this year.

I give TLM alot of credit they showed up huge in Fargo
