Justin Shipman was well deserving of the District 15 Senior Athlete of the Year Award . He edges out Rudy YoungBird slightly in pure basketball talent , . I felt Justin was an obvious choice for this award , and a hands down favorite . He will more than likely win the Region 8 Senior Athlete , and be in strong consideration for the State Senior Athlete also .

I think Mauch, Carpenter, Shockman, Haagenson, Scherbenske, Wisthoff, Dufault, and Shipman will win region POY. Dufault will be State POY without question.

There are not very many kids in the senior class. One of the best seniors that did not get much recognition is from Center, he is an excellent player, ballhandler, and shooter and had an unfortunate injury the second game of the season that resulted him not getting much playing time against their district and unfortunately no love from the other coaches.

The list is an impressive group, we have had contact with many of the young men and the ones we know have always handled themselves in a great manor on and off the court. That is a big part of the qualities of being the region athlete of the year. Good luck to all.

Whose had the better season?? Who had the benefit of having two "all staters on his team" Shipman has done it year in and year out without other "stars" He is the best pick in this region. Your "NO" is completely biased!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shipman is best player in Region 8. Been a team leader on and off the court. Plays good defense and seldom misses a shot from 15' and closer. Watford has a though schedule this year and won a lot of close games. Shipman always keeps his cool and led them to a undefeated season.Congrats!

Good point about how these young men handle themselves on and off the court. Most likely if a player is a pouter, lazy, or disrespectful to other players and officials this mirrors how they behave off the court, plus reflects back on their upbringing, and sends a bad light to their parents. Players who demonstrate good sportsmanship are the ones who are able to keep their emotions in check, never melt down, and keep their team in the game, without cheap shots or trash talking. These are the players who deserve the awards, and if Shipman is one of these, good for him.
