i'm thinking the 1-8 and 4-5 games would be on one side of the bracket, and the possibility of a 2-3 game on the other side.

thank you, ....doesnt look like any major upsets. 1 and 2 should win easily. FSHP does have the potential to beat Kindred, if they start playin but we've been sayin that all year, and i think Oak grove should be able to handle Northern Cass, but you never know.

My first thought is that FSHP is a tough matchup as a #5 seed. I've only seen them play twice, but have followed their scores and boxscores throughout the year. I've come to the conclusion that they are what they are, about a .500 team. Everyone probably had them pegged a bit too high at the beginning of the year so it seems like they haven't played up to their potential. Central Cass and Richland will win big. Oak Grove will get by Northern Cass, their guards match up well but the Grovers have versatile inside/outside players that should give them the edge. Kindred FSHP is a coin toss. I think Kindred's guard play will give them a first round win.

i'm gonna agree with your picks, except for the kindred/fshp game, i think that if fshp puts bomber on cossette and ostrom on plante, and limit thier turnovers that they should win the game.

plante might be too fast for ostrom. but then again ostrom does play excellent defense most of the time so it shouldnt matter too much. 1 and 2 will get wins, but idk about the other two games. ill go with northern cass pulling off the upset and Kindred winning a close one.

ostrom seemed to play pretty tough on him in their last meeting, i think he only scored 7 on him. i'm gonna go with fshp beating kindred 61-49. haha i know i'm goin out on a limb, but ya never know if i keep sayin this will be the game the click, its gotta happen one of these weeks.:)

Central Cass beat Maple Valley by about 20. Kindred came back from a 15-point deficit to beat FSHP by several points. I don't remember the exact score. Richland is easily beating Enderlin (game still in progress).

Saturday's first semi-final game:

Central Cass vs. Kindred

Rematch of the 2006 District 2 Championship game and 2005 Region 1 Championship game. Jay Bachman is getting used to playing the squirrels in big games.

Squirrels squeak by
Eric Peterson, The Forum
Published Tuesday, February 26, 2008

Matt Hendrickson claims his heroics resulted from fortunate positioning Monday at the Fargo Civic Center.

The Central Cass junior scored an inside basket with 19 seconds remaining to lift the Squirrels to a dramatic 49-48 victory against Richland for the North Dakota Class B, District 2 boys basketball title.

“It was all Beau on that play,” said Hendrickson, referring to teammate Beau Sinner. “I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. I tried not to think. I was thinking about it a little bit just because I was so wide open.”

Sinner stole the ball away from a Richland player – who had just grabbed a defensive rebound – before making a pass to an open Hendrickson on the other side of the lane.

Both teams advance to the Region 1 tournament, which starts Monday at the Fargo Civic Center.

Central Cass earned the No. 1 seed from the district. The Colts are the No. 2 seed.

“That’s Class B basketball at its finest,” Central Cass coach Troy Roesler said. “It’s fun for the kids. It’s fun for the kids 20 years from now to say they won a district championship.”

Richland nearly stole those bragging rights in the final seconds.

With eight seconds to play, the Colts took the ball out near midcourt and inbounded the ball to guard Jacob Thompson – named District 2 senior athlete of the year – a few feet into the backcourt.

Thompson drove and pulled up near the foul line and tried to throw a pass to a teammate on the baseline.

“You can tell I couldn’t be a good bull rider because that was the longest eight seconds of my life,” Roesler said.

Hendrickson deflected the initial pass, but Thompson recovered the loose ball and threw a pass into the middle of the lane.

Richland junior center Jay Bachman secured the ball near the hoop and put up a shot off the glass that rimmed out just before the final horn sounded.

“I thought it was over. My heart dropped,” Hendrickson said of the final sequence.

“We got the shot we wanted,” said Richland coach Mike Kegley, named District 2 coach of the year. “Sometimes they go in and sometimes they don’t. That wasn’t the deciding factor. We had a lot of chances and so did they.

“Central Cass made the plays down the stretch. They deserved to win.”

Thompson and Bachman each scored a game-high 16 points.

While Central Cass had no one score in double figures, four different players netted eight points, including Hendrickson. Seven Squirrels scored at least five points.

“This team is just so unselfish and we’re so deep,” Hendrickson. “Our 8, 9 and 10 guys would get a lot of playing time on other teams.”
