Postby biggest ticket » Thu Feb 07, 2008 6:35 pm

Lets see how well we know the entire state 2008 Class B hoop field. Now these are just predictions and definitly not who I would like to see win each region, but just gut feelings from talking with coaches and watching scores. Pre district predictions.

Region 1: Hankinson

Region 2: Grafton---Id like to see North Border and Carpenter again

Region 3: Lamoure---Id like to see Steele to see Randall

Region 4: Four Winds

Region 5: Turtle Lake-Mercer-

Region 6: Dunseith---Id like to see Berthold play cinderella

Region 7: Trinity ---Id like to see Hazen

Region 8: Watford City ---Id like to see Parshall come out to Fargo and defend its title.

Re. 3: Steele-Dawson has some nice support around Randall, Linton is always tournament ready, S-Z is very capable, S-B has made some noise, Kulm decent, LMM hot right now. ?"LaMoure not that great"? That's funny. Explain that one.

I have been on 4 scouting trips to lamoure. I don't understand how you could think lamoure is not that great. SHockman is a heck of a post. Great feet and runs like the wind. Holen, Watkins and Schrader are all very athletic and if you sink to help on shockman all of them move well of the ball and hit outside shots. Pollert might be there weak link but he seems to do alright. When they bring stemen into the game he fits right into their athleticism.

I agree if shockman isn't in the game they are not the same team, but he is usually quick enough, where he does not get into foul trouble.

1.Hankison(They are always pretty good)
2.Grafton (Wins with their Size and Strength)
3.Lamoure (UNDEFEATED)
4.Munich-Starweather(the Beck boys and 6'7" dude they are always in every game)
5.TL/M(Got 3 scorers can't go wrong. Mozier will lead them to state)
6.Minot Bishop Ryan (Dont no much about this region)
7.Dickinson Trinity/Hazen (I hate them to but they are pretty good)
8.Watford City (Their amazing!)

shockman is on a different level this year. He has improved alot from last year to this year. Watkins has gotten ALOT better this year also. Holen has taken a step back scoring but I think it is because Shokman and watkins have improved so much. I have seen Lisbon, Hankinson, Richland, North Sargent, steele, LMM all play and lamoure is the class of that group.

I think they could be had if there is someone in the state that can run with shockman, but he is so fricken fast. He always beats his guards down the court.

Region 1: Richland: Jacob Thompson is a great "under the radar" player. Hard to pick against Mauch.
Region 2: Grafton: Kliniskie a tough matchup in the post-season.
Region 3: LaMoure: Shockman is tough; Holen, Watkins, etc. My favorite for state champs.
Region 4: NR-Sheyenne: Close loss to a big, athletic EGF team showed me something.
Region 5:TLM: Hard for anyone in the region to match up with their firepower. Malzer leads the way.
Region 6: Ryan: Defense gives them the edge over Dunseith.
Region 7: Hazen: Tough schedule, experience gives them the edge over Richardton-Taylor.
Region 8: Watford City: They can score and they're better defensively than Parshall.

Region 1: Hankinson--Mauch leads the way
Region 2: Grafton--Home court advantage in Regions
Region 3: Steele Dawson--I would like to see Randall
Region 4: Munich Starkweather--Pretty consistant other--4 winds not so
Region 5: TLM--I don't know if anybody want to play these guys-DANGEROUS
Region 6: Ryan--Again--Would rather see an upset here--Berthold is solid
Region 7: WHO KNOWS PICK ANY ONE OF THE SE 5 (Hazen, Mott-Regent, Killdeer, RT, DT)
Region 8: New Town--Upset--The have given Watford fits and are playing very well right now.

Region 1: Hankinson makes a return trip beating Lisbon again
Region 2: North Border returns again beating Grafton in an OT thriller
Region 3: Lamoure finally breaks through to state
Region 4: Mun/Stark?? - NRS or ML could put it together at the right time, too. FW just too young...
Region 5: TLM knocks off Shiloh in the ship
Region 6: Dunseith upsets Minot Ryan
Region 7: Mott/Reg avenges their embarassing loss to Trinity in the semis and beats Hazen in final
Region 8: Watford City breaks thru by avoiding an upset in the semis

I'm giving the region 7 nod to Trinity as of now...they have been playing some solid basketball as of late, with the exception of the Beulah game, but a W is a W...Grinsteinner always has his players ready come tourney time, year after year, and this year is going to be no exception.

Project Pat i would like to see your predictions for state tournament qualifications. You seem very knowledgeable on B hoops. Now obviously 8 teams from region 7 will not qualify, but I respect your opinions on this site. So lets see how much of a schwamie you have in you.

1-Lisbon
2-Grafton
3-LaMoure
4-New Rockford/Sheyenne
5-Turtle Lake-Mercer
6-Minot Bishop Ryan
7-Dickinson Trinity
8-Watford City

I like the look of this years state tournament with the fact of seeing different teams other than the regulars (hopefully). I think Lisbon will revenge the loss to Hankinson and beat them when it counts the most. Grafton is just too big and tough for the rest of Region 2, plus they have homecourt for regionals. LaMoure have been knockin on the door for years now, and finally I believe they have the pieces to put it all together to take them to Fargo. New Rockford/Sheyenne is the real deal. They put 5 kids on the floor who work their tales off every minute of every night. They have proved that they can compete with the toughest in Region 4. Turtle Lake-Mercer is cruising right now. I would love to see them get to state, just to not watch Shiloh again. Bishop Ryan is too tough for the rest of the Region 6 field. Only team that has a chance to compete is Dunseith but Bishop Ryan will use their past big game experience and walk threw region 6, I think. Dickinson Trinity will make their 8th straight trip to the state B tournament. This will definately be one of their weakest teams but Region 7 is weaker than usual this year as well. Only competitors are Hazen, Mott-Regent and Richardton-Taylor but i'll take Trinity's past experience and great coaching to guide them to state. And for Region 8, Watford City will take their undefeated season, and #1 ranking in the state to Fargo. Parshall will be a tough match getting out of the region but Watford is just too tough.

Isn't it expected that FW would beat a team that is number 5 in district 8? Not saying I disagree but you don't use much of a bar to judge.
