That's the problem, move these young ones "up", lose the older kids that wanted to play, and the young one moved up never improves his game, because in junior high, he "made" it, he's already done improving. The frequency with which this occurs is alaraming, a smart coach won't do it. Who keeps stats at a junior high game? Living vicairously through the kids, maybe?

your right that is the problem, but for different reasons then what you said. the reason he doesnt improve is because hes playing against kids who wont help him improve. you say you would lose the older kids who wanted to play? if they quit thats probably because they cant play and are worried that this 8th grader will take thier spot. you dont just move him up to move him up...u move him up so he improves. IM not saying they should all play varsity, but if they are a JH stud and can do anything they want, move them up to atleast JV so he can play against better competition and learn what will and wont work as well at the next level.

The JH kid doesn't improve, his motivation is lost when he got the prize playing with the big boys. The high school kids see the JH player as someone who took away their classmates spot, and opt for an after school job or time with grandpa. Everyone loses. Pros don't use college players, college players don't use high school, high school doesnt use junior high.

then why are their early entrants into the NBA draft?? Why did Kevin Durant go to the NBA instead of stay at Texas 3 more year?? because staying at Texas did noting for him and he could play at the next level. LeBron doesnt even go to college and he seems to be doing alright. give me a list of the top 20 players in the NBA and show me how many went to college for 4 years.

Why? One word - Money.
Junior high/junior varsity/varsity is not about money. Its about teamwork, education, and life skills.

then y doesnt every player enter the draft...its only the ones who are ready for the next level. they make the jump because staying back one more year or however long it is doesnt help them.
