Will home court advantage be enough to help Hazen pull off the upset and come out of Region 7?

Region 4
@ Devils Lake High School
G5 - (20-1) #1 (2) Four Winds-Minnewaukan vs #9 Lakota (10-12)
G6 - (14-6) #4 Dunseith vs #5 North Star (15-7)
G7 - (18-3) #2 (RV) North Prairie vs #7 St. John (11-9)
G8 - (15-6) #3 Harvey-Wells County vs #6 Warwick (16-6)

FWM should coast into the semifinals, but game 2 should be a good one. Dunseith beat North Star (w/o Hagler) in the season finale by 20. Hagler didn't play in the play-in game against BC. I haven't heard but would assume he might be back for the region. Should be a close game, but I've got NS by 10.

NP against SJ is also interesting. SJ struggled off and on this season (losing to the 11 seed, but beat NP as the 2 seed at the end of the season). NP should handle the Woodchucks but that last loss plays into it as well. Going with NP by 15.

Warwick was my preseason pick for the team to make a run in the postseason, but they struggled the last week against the 11 and 12 seeds of Region 4 and probably should have lost both those games. HWC has been on a roll so I'll take them by 15 as well.

1. Central Cass, Sargent County, Kindred, Oak Grove
2. North Border Grafton, Thompson, Hillsboro-CV,
3. Medina-Pingree-Buchanan, Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier, LaMoure-L-M, Ellendale
4. FWM, North Prairie, Harvey-Wells County, North Star
5. Shiloh, Standing Rock, Garrison, Wilton-Wing
6. Bishop Ryan, DL-B, Velva, Westhope-Newburg
7. Beulah, Bowman County, Trinity, Hazen
8. Stanley, Kenmare-Bowbells, Powers Lake-Burke Central, White Shield

R2, R5, & R7 are toss ups to me. Would like to be wrong and have Wilton-Wing come out of R5. Out of Garrison, Standing Rock, and W-W, the Miners were within five points of knocking off Shiloh. Like I said would like to be wrong, but Shiloh has too much size.

I'm watching Region 5. It must be packed in that little gym on nights 2 and 3 of the tournament. Seems too small to host a regional IMO.

First day went about how I figure it would. Warwick over HWC was a bit of a surprise but wouldn't call it an upset. My original top 4 from midseason are still in play. Tonight I see FWM and NP each winning by 15-20.

Semi-Final Predictions

Region 1
(21-0) #1 (1) Central Cass vs #5 Hankinson (16-6)- CC beat Hankinson by 1 earlier in the year on the road. I think CC comes out ready to roll tonight. CC by 8
(19-2) (6) Sargent County vs #3 Kindred (14-7)- Teams split during the regular season. I would love to see SC make the state tournament, but I'll take Kindred and the big game experience their program has to win by 5

Region 2
G8 - (15-7) #1 (10) Thompson vs May-Port-C-G (16-6)- MPCG won the first one, I'll take Thompson tonight by 7
G9 - (15-7) #2 Hillsboro-Central Valley vs #3 Grafton (16-6)- HCV won the first two. Grafton wins the one that matters most. Grafton by 3

Region 3
G5 - (19-4) D6#1 Medina-Pingree-Buchanan vs D6#3 Linton-HMB (14-8)- MPB got them a couple of weeks ago in Linton. I think Linton will get them tonight. Carr makes one more run to the state tournament.
G6 - (13-9) D5#1 Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier vs D5#3 (RV) Ellendale (13-9)- Ellendale got them earlier this year. I'll say Ellendale by 8

Region 4
G9 - (21-1) #1 (2) Four Winds-Minnewaukan vs #5 North Star (16-7)- North Star is the trendy pick. Four Winds is still Four Winds. I'll take FWM by 15+
G10 - (19-3) #2 (10) North Prairie vs #6 Warwick (17-6)- North Prairie by 10

Region 5
G8 - (18-4) #1 (4) Shiloh Christian vs #5 Washburn (11-11)- Shiloh by a lot.
G9 - (19-3) #2 (9) Garrison vs #6 Flasher (12-11)- These teams played before Christmas. I'll take Flasher in the upset. Flasher is a tournament team.

Region 6
G5 - (21-2) D12#1 (3) Bishop Ryan vs D12#3 Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood (12-11)- Minot Ryan by a lot.
G6 - (17-6) D12#2 (RV) Des Lacs-Burlington D12#4 Our Redeemer's (11-12)- DLB by 12

Region 7
G9 - (19-2) (5) Bowman County vs #4 Hazen (15-7)- Bowman has struggled the last couple of weeks. I think Hazen gets them tonight. Location plays a factor here.
G10 - (19-3) #2 (8) Beulah vs #3 Dickinson Trinity (15-7)- Miners take advantage of the neutral floor and win by 6

Region 8
G5 - (17-4) D16#1 Powers Lake-Burke Central vs D16#3 Stanley- Stanley got them earlier in the year. I'll take Powers Lake to win the rematch by 4
G6 - (13-10) D16#2 Kenmare-Bowbells vs D16#4 Divide County (15-8)- DC won earlier, i'll take them to win again by 2

I'm looking forward to the Beulah vs. Dickinson game. Brandt knows what he's doing. Scoring 71 against Dickinson on their home floor was impressive. That was the most points Dickinson has allowed at home all year. The 2nd most points they've given up at home was 54 to Bismarck the first game of the season. These coaches know each other very well and this game will continue to add to this great rivalry.

Region 6 Recap in one sentence:

Ryan vs. Bottineau - It's Ryan's region to lose.
MLS vs. Velva - The team that wanted it more won.
W/N vs. ORCS - You had a hunch W/N was going to struggle shooting in the dome, but credit ORCS "D" as they always had Braaten's whereabouts accounted for.
DLB vs. TGU - DLB didn't expect the throat punch in the 1st half - regained their composure in the 2nd.

I would like to know their shooting percentage, it wasn't very good. They are definitely not the same team as last year.

Crazy night in Region 4! No one would have had picked the two teams in the championship. Warwick goes from almost losing the play-in game to the #11 seed to being one win from state. The Leftbear injury hurt FWM, but North Star did a great job of shutting down Deng and holding FWM to a season low in points to earn the win.

North Star edged Warwick 78-74 in the regular season. Should be another close game. Neither team has players that have played in a game of this magnitude before. Will anyone struggle with nerves or play tight? Could be the difference in the game.

That was the most points Dickinson has allowed at home all year. The 2nd most points they've given up at home was 54 to Bismarck the first game of the season. These coaches know each other very well and this game will continue to add to this great rivalry.

Defense must have showed up "#2 (8) Beulah def #3 Dickinson Trinity 52-29"

Region 1 Title Game - (22-0) (1) Central Cass vs #3 Kindred (15-7)
I'll take Central Cass in this game.

Region 2 Title Game - (16-7) #1 (10) Thompson vs #3 Grafton (17-6)
My gut tells me Grafton will win this game.

Region 3 Title Game - (20-4) D6#1 Medina-Pingree-Buchanan vs D5#3 (RV) Ellendale (14-9)
I'll take Ellendale to win this game.

Region 4 Title Game - (17-7) #5 North Star vs #6 Warwick (18-6)
I'll take North Star to win this game.

Region 5 Title Game - (19-4) #1 (4) Shiloh Christian vs #2 (9) Garrison (20-3)
I think Bismarck Shiloh Christian wins this game.

Region 6 Title Game - (22-2) D12#1 (3) Bishop Ryan vs D12#2 Des Lacs-Burlington (18-6)
I think Minot Bishop Ryan wins.

Region 7 Title Game - (20-2) #1 (5) Bowman County vs #2 (8) Beulah (20-3)
I think Bowman will win this one, seems like they have it figured out in their last 6 quarters.

Region 8 Title Game - (18-4) D16#1 Powers Lake-Burke Central vs D16#2 Kenmare-Bowbells (14-10)
I'll take Powers Lake/BC to win this one.

I think if CC, Minot Ryan, Bismarck Shiloh and Bowman win they are the 1-4 seeds. If any of those top 4 lose then seeding will be very interesting. I could see a case being made for seeds for 13 of the 16 teams playing for titles pending the results of the games!
