Ellendale is putting together a very, very good season. I am looking forward to seeing them match up with the top 2 teams from District 6 - Linton-HMB and SZ. I see Ellendale, EKM L-HMB and SZ as easily being the top 4 teams in Region 3 this year. If I had to rank them I would put L-HMB #1 followed by Ellendale, EKM and SZ.

Good stuff but still pretty early. LLM, South Border, Carrington and Oakes team will all be scary match ups come tournament time as well. Just getting out of D5 will take some work.

Nice win for Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier over Ellendale last night. District 5 Tournament is going to be a very, very good one. EKM, Ellendale, LaMoure, Oakes are all going to be tough and if Carrington gets it going things will get very interesting. Region 3 tourney should be a great one too. Who ever comes out of this Region is going to be battle tested for sure.

Sportsrube, did you get a chance to see this game? If so, could you tell us about it. Any standouts? Guessing it was a great environment.

Sorry, I wasn't at the game, I was watching S-Z beat South Border last night. I will say that S-Z is legit. They have 5 kids who can score and they play very well together. Their defense is a little weak (2-3 zone all night) but they have a ton of confidence in their ability to outscore the other team. Nieuwsma is the real deal on offense. He has the ability to score in bunches almost anytime he wants. I don't keep stats, but I bet S-Z shot 65% or better from the field last night. They are well coached and they have a couple of guys off the bench who seem to be getting better too.

Have heard good things of Mr. Nieuwsma. EHS1998, could you give us some details about the game and atmosphere last night?

The atmosphere was great! EKM was in control from the start. Vance and Wertz from Ellendale each picked up 2 fouls inside of 5 mins of the first quarter. Ellendale hung with them but had too many turnovers, which EKM took advantage of. EKM played great D. Wertz probably played less than 7 minutes total due to foul trouble. Bottom line, EKM took it to the Cardinals. Despite the result, it was really a fun atmosphere for the kids.

EHS1998 - any idea how bad Thielges' ankle injury is? Lamoure needs him to be a threat in the Region 3 tourney.

No idea how bad it is, but given the fact that he didn't step on the court last night seems somewhat indicative. I sincerely hoped he could go, hate to see that happen to any player and certainly not a senior. I am also hoping he can go tomorrow for his sake. What I do know is that a quality team (Oakes or Lamoure) in D5 is not going to make it to R3.

Hopefully Thielges can go on Monday, otherwise it is going to be very difficult for Lamoure. Hate to see anyone's season end on an injury, especially tough when it is a senior. I agree that a quality team is going to be eliminated Monday night. Region 3 Tournament should be a good one!

Good D5 final last night. Cardinals dug a hole they couldn't get out of. Congrats to the Rebels and to Drew Thielges on SPOY. Had to be a really close vote between him and Connor Entzie.
