Region 3 Tourney

Postby #swag » Wed Mar 04, 2015 11:50 am

REGION 3
@ Jamestown Civic
March 9, 10, 12

Monday, March 9th
G1: D6-1 Strasburg/Zeeland (17-5) vs. D5-4 Ellendale (18-4)
G2: D5-2 LaMoure-LM (15-7) vs. D6-3 Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter (6-15)
G3: D5-1 Oakes (17-5) vs. D6-4 Medina/Pingree-Buchanan (10-11)
G4: D6-2 Linton-HMB (17-4) vs. D5-3 Carrington (15-6)

Tuesday, March 10th
G5: Strasburg/Zeeland vs. LaMoure-LM
G6: Oakes vs. Linton-HMB

Thursday, March 12th
Championship: LaMoure-LM vs. Oakes
First off, does anybody know if White will play this upcoming week? As that could change my pick for them vs S/Z.
Anyway, I don't think that matters very much as Oakes will be the champions of Region 3 in about a week.

This looks to have some really good match ups also. Oakes has 5 loses who were those teams that beat them?

Strasburg/Zeeland over Ellendale by single digits.
(even if White plays because I don't think he will be at 100% unfortunately.)
LaMoure-LM over Napoleon by 20 or more.
Oakes over Medina/Pingree-Buchanon by 15.
Linton-HMB over Carrington by single digits.

Semi Finals: Strasburg over LaMoure by 12.
Linton-HMB over Oakes by 14.

3rd Place: Oakes over LaMoure by single digits.
Championship: Linton-HMB over Strasburg-Zeeland by single digits.

This is going to be a very competitive tournament. The only game that I don't see as being very competitive is LaMoure/Napoleon in the first round, every other game could easily go down to the final possession.

Oakes lost to Ellendale, LaMoure, Central Cass, Linton and Park Christian (Mn). They were down by double digits in both Carrinton games and came back to win with narrow victories. They are VERY athletic, balanced and appear to be well coached. Are they better than 5 of the other teams in Region 3? Time will tell. Whoever puts together 3 solid games wins this Region. IMO those potential champs are: Linton, Oakes, LaMoure, Ellendale, Strasburg, and Carrington. Take your pick or draw'em out of a hat, these teams are that evenly matched. Pingree/Medina is no "easy out" either but I don't think they have the "horses" to put together 3 big games in a row. This is gonna be a fun tournament to watch.

Not sure who will win or if its a good or bad region, but this tourney is going to be one of the most competitive in the state.

No doubt! Competitive every year. Will be interesting if finally someone besides Linton or Lamoure can represent the region at State. Seems like those two have the bulk of the wins in the tournament over the last decade.

Some very good games yesterday. Hope Ailo from LaMoure is ok and can play today. I still have Strasburg-Zeeland beating LaMoure and Linton-HMB beating Oakes. Both could be very good games. It was fun watching Purinton (LHMB) and Auberea (Carrington) match up yesterday. Two very quick players who handle the ball very well.

I went to all games yesterday and agree with your picks for tonight. Oakes would have to play exceptional to beat Linton. Oakes will be pumped up for this one though. If LaMoure plays like they did yesterday, Strasburg will beat them by 20. (I'm sure they won't) I am guessing both games will be very competitive. I still think Linton is the best team in this Region and the Region is theirs to lose. Linton will need to be on top of their game to win both tonight and tomorrow night but will say they are the favorites.

The Abaurrea/Puriton matchup was fun to watch. I also enjoyed watching Neuissma (sp?) from Strasburg. Too bad Adam White was not available to play for Ellendale yesterday. Talk about a difference maker...Hoping he is recovering and doing well.

Thank you for the nice comments and kind thoughts. They mean more than you know.

The support Adam has received from the community of Ellendale, within the District/Region and across the state has been overwhelming and humbling.

He wasn't close to playing yesterday and still has a recovery road ahead of him but he still seems to be getting better every day. We are thankful for that and that it wasn't much worse.

Certainly a disappointing way to end a very promising season for the Cardinals but when you look at things from the filter of what has happened recently in communities like Ray, you get a big dose of perspective.

Adam was blessed to have played in 88 straight games for the Cardinals before this occurred so it is hard for us to feel sorry for ourselves, to this point he has avoided major injury. These things happen and you have to deal with them. I am proud of how he has dealt with it.

Want to wish all the remaining teams the best of luck tonight and the rest of the way. Expecting two very good games. 3 of the 4 teams include multiple players who Adam has played many games with in travel leagues and AAU so it is hard to pick sides. More importantly, hoping everyone stays healthy!

First semi-final: Lamoure-L-M over Strasburg-Zeeland 64-54. Lamoure scores 20 pts in the 4th qtr all on FT's. (L-L-M shot 28 FT's in the 4th qtr and 34 for the game.) Strasburg did not defend very well in the 1st half and it really cost them. It was a 1 pt lead for L-L-M at one point in the 4th and then they built it up to 10 on FT's. L-L-M did not have a FG in the 4th qtr, only FT's. Not a real fun game to watch, just walking to an end to shoot FT's for the 4th qtr.

Second semi-final: Oakes 72 Linton-HMB 69. Oakes pretty much led from opening tip to final buzzer. (I was 0 - 2 in tonight's games.) Purinton played a very good game for Linton but I thought Oakes did a good job of forcing the other Linton players to take shots they were not comfortable with.
For third place I have Linton-HMB beating Strasburg-Zeeland by 10 and Oakes beating Lamoure-L-M by 7. (Unless Lamoure-L-M gets to shoot 30+ free throws again, then they should win.) This has been a very competitive tournament so far and Thursday should be no different.

It will definitely be a competitive matchup between Oakes and LLM. Both of the teams are beatable and have weaknesses. LLM needs to focus on keeping the good shot attempts away from Meehl and Zetocha. Olson needs to stay on his feet and not get sold on simple head fakes. Oakes needs to close well on the LLM shooters, if Thielges gets rattled we've all seen how streaky he can be. If they keep the Loboes out of the lane and don't foul too much this game is theirs to lose.

This game is totally up for grabs, they've both beat each other this year. Both very athletic teams, its going to come down to who wants it more and who stays out of foul trouble.

Great game that was controlled by LLM from the get-go (aside from that spurt form Oakes towards the end of the fourth). A little surprised at the outcome of this one. A great team simply got out-coached in this one. Props to Thielges on getting his boys to control the tempo and rotate on those skip passes within their 2-3. Coach Bata had a great season and earned every bit of that coach of the year award. However, he simply got beat tonight. Congrats to the Loboes on responding to adversity and turning their season around. Good luck to them next week in Bismarck.

RUFKM?

Don't have official numbers but thought I heard on post-game radio Oakes shot about 28%. He could have coached his a$$ off tonight but he can't make shots for them.

Not taking anything away from LLM or their coach. They got it done. But your comment is out of line.

Oakes struggled in the half court vs the 2-3 zone, didn't get great looks but that was really the Loboes rotating on the skip pass and playing great team D. I agree with BeQuick, I don't see how you hang this on the Coach. LLM just executed their game plan exceptionally well. And why the need to find fault?

Both Coach Thieges and Coach Bata are 1st class guys both know their stuff. 4 years ago when Oakes's seniors were freshman Oakes was 2-19 and if memory serves me correct struggling to score 40 pts a game and giving up 70. The last 2 years they were in region championships in both region 1 and region 3 Coach Thielges is taking a team to state that in most games played just 6 guys and started out something like 1-5??(could be wrong on that)

Some really good teams and players played their last game of the season last night just in region 3 alone. on a side note I wish Adam White the best i haven't heard but i hope he continues his career somewhere. The kid was an absolute beast in the low post. Best of Luck to lamoure at the state B as an Oakes fan as much as it hurts to say it I will, Go Loboes!
