North Dakota Preps

I be seen the term thrown around a lot and I have a general idea of what the schools are, but if someone would be so kind as to tell me a "mega-B" or two in their region, that'd be great. Really clear things up for me. Also, if you think private schools and small As fit into this category, please post them. This might help give us an idea of what these schools are when we refer to them.

In my opinion these would be schools where a majority of the population commutes to metro areas for work and has the added advantage of being close to a larger pool of athletic resources like a ymca, sports medicine, etc. Bottineau, Rugby, Stanley, Grafton, Hazen, Beulah, and others I feel are mega B's but for different reasons. They benefit because they are far enough from the major metro areas so they support more small businesses, or benefit from the energy industry, thus keeping their populations pretty healthy.

Not all these "mega B's" are relevant though year in and year out. Tradition, community support, and good coaching probably means more than just living in or near a large town/city.

this is exactly right.....if your going make it 8 different teams every year in class B (the new and improved 3erd class) Class A (the mega B's) and Class AA (the Big dogs) then we need the ban on cloning lifted and we need to clon programs players and coaches.......

I'm really asking particular schools you guys consider to be problems, not a definition. Thanks for the input though.

Hammertime, I don't think any school can be considered a problem, some just have more advantages, because of location. These towns didn't just spring up out of nowhere, although some of the parochials are fairly new. I guess if you want specific examples, most of the teams in district 12 would fall under my definition of Mega B's because of their proximity to Minot.

Maybe problem wasn't the right term.

Are those in order from largest to smallest? I'm pretty sure Rugby is around 175 but definitely at least 150

hmm...they are in some order. Now its hard to list all schools accurately because for some reason some schools give 7-12 numbers and some 9-12. I tried my best to figure 9-12 numbers. I should be able to figure out an accurate Rugby number by tomorrow.

Yeah I know what you mean with that directory. I really don't trust its numbers at all because a lot of them have been wrong. For instance 9-12 enrollment is labeled 7-12 and so on. I'm surprised MPCG is that high since they are dropping to 9man in the next plan. Maybe just some big classes in 11 and 12

I'll continue to work to get accurate 9-12 numbers this week...that's just a preliminary list. But still if Rugby falls in that list they are near the bottom.

I'm surprised it isn't higher. That co-op will continue to grow. Hettinger/Scranton is probably in the 120-130 range?

130 at most. I'd guess more like 115ish.

Oak Grove is what is 150-160...exact number escapes me. Couple years ago it was as low as 130.

So, from what I've gathered, these are the schools that dominate every one else or are the cause of certain disagreements. (*cough* Shiloh Christian *cough*) it honestly seems like a sizable amount if we were to make a third middle class. 22-23 schools. About the same as our current top class. Seems like it would be simple to set up and stop all the debate.
