As far as District 11 - Rugby has it locked up if no major incidents happens

District 12, could be a very good fight for the top 3 spots, it will be a very interesting year

Is this topic dead because we all know that, unless something catastrophic happens, this is Rugby's region to lose?

Yes, Rugby is the favorite, but--but, and this is a big BUT; a key injury and some substandard play and Our Redemer's has the ability to pull off an upset. They go big, I think 6-9, 6-7, 6-5 and 6-2 but whether they can move up and down the court with Rugby is another big if. Everyone thought Rugby would run away with the region last year and they did, but I actually saw them rattled a couple of times. Behind in a game all the way till the third quarter in districts. If all the stars align anything is possible.

Don't know if it will be Nolan Hovland, Tanner Bernhardt or combination of the two. Maybe someone else more in the know will chime in.

Before the season started, I would have guessed Heidlebaugh was a shoo in for Region 6 player of the yr, but Lee from Berthold may rain on his parade...........but I am sure both will be All State, any other players have a legitimate stake to a All State berth?

There are some other real good players in Region 6. I just don't think any other ones get all state. I think both Heidlebaugh and Lee would represent Region 6 SAOY very well. Both are very good players and well deserving of the award.

Bishop Ryan played a packed in 2-3 zone for most of the game and Rugby struggled to hit jump shots. Rugby forced a lot of turnovers and didn't really allow Ryan to get second chances.

I saw on the news Austin Lee went down with an ankle injury and didn't return. Anyone have any insight on that? I really hope it's nothing serious for Austin. You hate to see that for any kid, especially at this point of the season.

Does anyone know if Drake-Anamoose is back at full strength? At one point, weren't they without 3 starters? What other teams are battling injuries?

Austin Lee did not play in Berthold's last game against Ray due to his ankle injury. I believe he will be back for Districts.

Our Redeemer's last game against Bottineau they did not have 6'6"John Reiten (concussion). Also 6'4" Ben Talley was ill with the flu - he played against Bottineau, but I think he was only in about 5-10 minutes. Also, 6'9" Dalton Steede played but his mobility was quite hampered by an ankle injury. Their back up point guard, Noah Able, is out for the season with knee surgery. I believe they will have their three big men back in time for Districts.

DLB lost a player to a broken arm I believe.

Never a good thing to hear that players are injured around tournament time. Hope everyone everywhere makes a full recovery. So sad when players can't enjoy the things they've been working towards. :(

Agreed Broncos...Never a good thing to hear that players are injured period...a whole season can turn on an ankle come tournaments...or a high school career as a senior year and an entire team's dream; witness Alex Weston and NorthStar. Just tough all around...

I'm not even sure why they are having the Region 6 tournament. If Rugby is that big of a favorite, everyone might as well stay home and save themselves the money to go watch. Lets hand the 2nd place trophy to the other 7 teams and we'll call it a day!!

REGION 6
@ Minot State Dome
March 9, 10, 12

Monday, March 9th
G1: D12-1 Berthold (20-1) vs. D11-4 Bottineau (8-13)
G2: D11-2 Drake-Anamoose (10-12) vs. D12-3 Our Redeemer's (19-3)
G3: D11-1 Rugby (19-2) vs. D12-4 Surrey (14-8)
G4: D12-2 Bishop Ryan (14-8) vs. D11-3 Sawyer (11-11)

Tuesday, March 10th
G5: Winner G1 vs. Winner G2
G6: Winner G3 vs. Winner G4

Thursday, March 12th
3rd Place: Loser G5 vs. Loser G6
Championship: Winner G5 vs. Winner G6

Who do you guys like for the games? Any upsets in mind? I could see Sawyer upsetting Minot Ryan if they end up shooting well. If both D-A and ORCS play a packed in 2-3 zone, I think it comes down to who shoots the ball better. There could be good first round games. I think Rugby and Berthold both win by 15+ in the first one.

In response to the above post, does it count as an upset if ORCS (3 seed) beats D-A (2 seed)? I believe ORCS will win that game, and I don't think they will play much zone against D-A. I think that the game will be more determined by floor speed than outside shooting and I believe ORCS will out-run D-A.
Ryan looked so good in their District Tourney win over ORCS and then so bad the next night in their loss to Berthold that it is hard to predict how they will play. With that said, I believe they will beat Sawyer.
My picks for the first round is Rugby beating Surrey by +15 and then all the other D11 teams losing to the D12 teams by +15.

Predictions
Berthold 75 Bottineau 48
Our Redeemers 75 Drake-Anamoose 53
Rugby 82 Surrey 45
Bishop Ryan 70 Sawyer 48

Dont think there will be any close first round games. But semi's and final could be fun and or interesting.

After last nights games, I will go back on what i said that Lee will give Heidlebaugh a run for SAOY, Heidlebaugh is so good in all facets of the game, that I would now be surprised if Lee would win SAOY.....but still think Lee is a all-state player IMO :)
