Tournament update thread

Let me be the first to say I'm disappointed that I don't see any arm sleeves on any of the Cavalier players.

I suppose if they lose that will be the reason?

Oak Grove 67
Flasher 65
FINAL

First half was ugly for Flasher. They got killed on the boards, had major holes in their defense, and looked rigid on offense. At half they were down around 15 and looked like they had no business being at state. Second half Oak Grove missed open shots, and Flasher responded with a run VERY late in the game to cut the lead to 1 with what seemed like 3 after 3. A late TO by Oak Grove gave Flasher a chance to hold the ball for the last shot, but they chose to shoot a 3 pointer that missed. Oak Grove hit 1/2 FTs and a last second 3 pointer by Flasher hit back iron. A terrible first half and a few careless TO's in the 2nd half probably cost Flasher the game in this one, but they made one heck of a comeback.

North Star 39
Beulah 36
End of 3rd

Both teams seem to be streaky as one will have a mini-run and then goes cold where the other one will have a run. North Star leading scorer Weston had only 2 points in the 2nd half, but Kvililang? has been Dirk Nowitzkish. Mettzersmish?? drilling 3's left and right. North Star seems to have a glaring weakness with handling the ball that Beulah has tried to exploit, but they have a height advantage too. Should go down to the wire as they look pretty evenly matched.

The foul call on Hettich's steal was pure bs. Refs need to quit anticipating calls.

Isn't it funny how it is always the refs fault when a team loses. yea they make some calls you might not agree with but I bet you can find calls the other team did not like too. \

No one got handed anything...there were as many questionable calls the other way and some were blatant

Great first day, but the reffing was questionable. The refs are underpaid.

1st round of playoffs on the MN side so I missed the night games, but wow they seemed like good games. I have them on DVR, but I'm too tired to watch them. Kudos to North Star. I figured they were the worst team in the tournament.

I agree with this comment. That steal was clean as a whistle. I forgot to look at the positioning of the official but I bet he was to the side of the play where he couldn't see through the bodies to see the space between the players when the steal occurred. The camera angle of the floor camera was perfect to show how clean the pick was.

I understand how this happens to officials - they think they saw something so they make a call, as they should. The trouble is that they "think" they see a call when they are off to the side and can't possibly see through the bodies. The only answer in this situation is if you don't/can't see it, don't call it.

I had no horse in this race so this comes from a purely objective standpoint.

It didn't hurt Cavalier because LHMB missed the FT, but fouling on purpose with 55 seconds left and down one was a pretty poor decision.

2:52 in the fourth quarter. Definitely a call that favored NS. We missed the free throw, but Beulah would have probably gotten a layup had the whistle not blown.

As for Kvilvang's push-off, it definitely could have been called, but I don't think it really gave him an advantage.

I thought Beulah got called for a lot of travels that I didn't see, but I wasn't very close to the floor.
