I am a big believer in ref calls even out. In saying that, I also believe the foul on New Town on the rebound at the end of first day was a terrible call. That was a game changer in my opinion. NT had a chance to win with the last second layup to even out the call, but here I am on day 3 still seeing that as a ref mistake.

Cavalier wins on a put back at the buzzer...Flasher also hangs on to win. I'd say all four teams that played this afternoon all had a chance to be playing at night.

Absolute total lack of class by the Oak Grove student section. Running around the court trying to start the wave while Rugby player shooting free throws. Finally Schillingof the High School Association stopped them. Pitiful.

Wow..No wonder everybody wanted Rugby to win... I still think Rugby was the better team..stupid foul calls on them killed them, and kretchman's Hail Mary's.

Definitely thought officiating weighed in favor of OG, but they're taking some unwarranted hate right now.

Seriously, the t-shirts?

Seems like the only fouls called on Oak Grove were fouls that took baskets away from Rugby. It's hard to compete with your best players on the bench. That being said they won the game because of some incredible three point shooting. Rugby has struggled throughout the tournaments with poor shooting. It just caught up with them.

Congrats to Oak Grove. What a game. Big night for the Kretchmans, Tanner won EDC SPOY. Good for the kids.

To be fair, I thought Kretchman got fouled on his drive at the end of regulation. It wasn't called. They won this game fair and square and are state champions.

To be fair, I thought Kretchman got fouled on his drive at the end of regulation. It wasn't called. I am the last person who wants to defend Oak Grove and I have very real and personal reasons for not being a fan of some of their players, but they won this game fair and square and are state champions.

Refs weren't going to call that at the end of a game. For any team.

Fair enough, but to say that they got calls every time they went to the rim is inaccurate.

I beg to differ with you...it is more than true that OG had calls in their favor anytime anyone went to the rim or even near the rim no matter what rim it was.

Very exciting tournament with many close games. Alerus center not the best place for a tourney, but nice if a person had rooms at canad inn and could just walk to game. Speaking of that, only in our great state of North Dakota could you frequent a couple bars, then walk down the hall to the gun show, THEN walk further down the hall to watch a high school state tournament. Priceless.

Alex Weston probably impressed me as much as anyone. He is almost like a Dirk Nowitski type player with his length and shooting ability. moves a little bit like him too.
Remember...there is always a little boy in the stands that wants to be just like you, don't disappoint him.

t-shirts??? what do any t-shirts have to do with the game.

I'll agree the few 'bad eggs' in the student section made some questionable decisions during the game (FT situation). I will agree it wasn't very classy...but remember it was only a few kids and not everyone.

Rugby had their fair share of blocks at the rim that weren't fouls...9 blocks if I remember correctly.

Thoughts from the state tournament:

1. GF is NOT the place for the state B.
2. I felt so bad for the New Town kids the first game, ridiculous.
3. Amazing games
4. Thought the coverage in Fridays paper was very good, Saturday not so much.
5. Concession prices^^^?! Are you kidding me? Wow
6. One of the worst books for the State tournament ever, no records page etc...
7. Scoreboard placement (I thought they had a big drop down board the last time)
8. CK and BH put on a show in the title game, very impressed.
9. If it's a foul in the 1st quarter it should be a foul in the 4th quarter.
10. The lights were on for the starting lineups in the championship game, why?
11. GF should have taken a page out of what Fargo did last year for the girls (put the crowd "on top" of the floor, the NDHSAA people do not need their own special section behind the table, sorry)
12. If the NDHSAA is going to come out with new "rules", enforce them. The no mega-phone, no running around the court, having to "stand above a seat for each person" was not enforced, and it's pretty bad when Sherm had to come and tell a student section that they can't run around the floor, IMO that looked really bad for the AD of that school.

Might seem like a lot of complaining, but I didn't feel like it was the best run tournament, and I completely disagree with the State Tournament taking place in Grand Forks.
