Game #5 - (6) Thompson vs. (7) Dakota Prairie

Thompson defeats Dakota Prairie 41-38

A very, very, very, ugly game saw Thompson advance to a region qualifier on Monday with a narrow victory over 7-seed Dakota Prairie. DP led at halftime 19-16 with both teams struggling on offense. Thompson outscored the Knights 15-9 in the third quarter and the teams tied in the fourth 10-10. The Tommies did just enough to pull out the win. Calen Shwabe had a very nice game for Thompson with 18 points, 10 rebounds.

Thompson plays the loser of the Hillsboro/Central Valley vs. Larimore.

Dakota Prairie is eliminated.

I saw a few teams play this year. Lot of parity in district 3. Figured the Tommie's would have just enough and I thought hcv was due to put it together after a ton if tight loses. We'll see if I can bat .1000 here.....

Game #8 - (2) Hatton-Northwood vs. (3) May-Port CG

Final Score -

MPCG: 57
H/N: 49

Connor Moore led the Patriots offensively once again with a solid night offensively. Moore scored 24 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor and 10-of-13 at the charity stripe. He also had four assists, four steals, and one rebound. Bennie Bradner was the other Patriots in double figures with 10 points, four rebounds. Outside of a great night from Jace Pederson, Hatton-Northwoods offense seemed to struggle as well. Pederson scored 32 points, had five rebounds, three assists, one block, and one steal. No other Thunder player hit double figures. Jacob Pladson was the closest with 8 points, but he sat much of the second half after his fourth foul came early in the third quarter. MPCG outscored the Thunder 20-11 at the free throw line (MPCG: 20-28; H-N: 11-20).

Monday's Schedule

Game # 9 – (2) Hatton-Northwood vs. (4) Griggs County Central

Final Score – Hatton-Northwood: 63 Griggs County Central: 53

The Thunder controlled this game for the majority of it besides a late fourth-quarter push from the Cougars to advance to the Region 2 tournament. The Thunder will likely advance as the #4 seed unless (6) Thompson pulls an upset and defeats (1) seed Larimore. Jace Pederson led the Thunder in scoring and rebounding in this one. He put up a “quiet” 24 points & 10 rebounds in the win connecting of 4-of-8 from three-point land. Landon Workin played well off the bench in scoring 12 points including 6-of-6 at the free throw line, which proved important in the final quarter. Jacob Pladson scored 11 and had 3 assists to round out double-digit scorers. Jaden Grover (15 points, 10 rebounds) led the Cougars in scoring. He was followed by Hunter Engel (14 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists) and Riley Nelson (12 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists).

Game #10 (1) Larimore vs. (6) Thompson

Final Score: Thompson: 59 Larimore: 50

Open mouth. Insert foot. Thompson just knocked out the #1 seed Larimore Polar Bears to advance to the Region 2 Tournament. The Polar Bears led this game going into the half 30-22 and were outscored 37-20 in the second half to get knocked out and have their season come to a close. Calen Schwabe (16 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists) had a huge game for the Tommies among the many Tommies in foul trouble. Great game by a freshman in a high pressure situation. Ty Myron scored 16 points and Connor Hjelmstad had a great game as well going for 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. The biggest stat of this game: Brayden Hofer – ZERO POINTS! He was held scoreless after a huge night against the Burros in the semi-finals. Thompson did a great job defensively and will advance as the #4 seed to the Region 2 tournament and will play the winner of Cavaler-Grafton tonight in the District 4 championship.

Game #11 – (3) May-Port CG vs. (5) Hillsboro/Central Valley

Final Score – Hillsboro/Central Valley: 42 May-Port CG: 37

The Patriots jumped on the Burros early with an 8-0 start to the game. Both offenses really struggled in the first half as it was a 17-15 MPCG lead at the break. The Burros got back into the game in the third with a 13-6 advantage, as Thomas Meyer got his offense going. In the fourth the teams played to a 14-14 tie, earning the Burros their second consecutive District 3 title. Thomas Meyer (23 points, 4 rebounds, 3 blocks, 1 assist, 1 steal) had his third great game of the tournament and really provided the Burros with offense when they were struggling to score. He was the only Burro in double figures. Connor Moore (21 points, 8-18 FGs) was the only Patriot in double digit scoring and made play after play to keep the Patriots in it, but his other teammates couldn’t get any offense going.

Hillsboro/Central Valley will be a #1 seed going into the Region 2 tournament and will play North Border on Monday, February 24, 2014.

May-Port CG will be a #2 seed going into the Region 2 tournament and will play Park River/Fordville-Lankin on Monday, Februray 24, 2014.
