Top Regions By Actual Winning %

Postby BB11 » Sun Jan 26, 2014 10:35 pm

I know that this doesn't mean anything in a sense. But I figured I would do this for fun. Since Each District takes it's top 4 teams to the Region tournament - and they are usually (not always) the top 4 teams record wise from each District - I took the top 4 teams (by record) in each district to combine with the other top 4 in the other district from the same region. Added up wins and losses of those top 8 teams - and came up with their winning Percentage.
Here are the rankings for the 8 Regions as based on their top 4 teams from each district's win-loss record %.

1. Region 6 - Record of 94-21 = 82% winning %
2. Region 2 - Record of 77-29 = 73% winning %
3. Region 1 - Record of 76-35 = 68% winning %
4. Region 4 - Record of 69-37 = 65% winning %
5. Region 7 - Record of 66-38 = 63% winning %
6. Region 3 - Record of 70-44 = 61% winning %
7. Region 5 - Record of 68-45 = 60% winning %
8. Region 8 - Record of 62-41 = 60% winning %

I know this doesn't tell the whole story - but it is kind of interesting - at least to me.

It is interesting...but a true look at each region should include EVERY team...not just the 'top' teams.

I'm guessing region 6 wouldn't be on top if they used every team. Really top heavy this year.

I did each region winning percentage by records of each of teams in the region it was as follows:
Region !: .5311
Region 2: .5372
Region 3: .5408
Region 4: .4700
Region 5: .4470
Region 6: .5283
Region 7: .4863
Region 8: .4635
It was interesting how regions shook out couple of regions have wide range from top to bottom and some were more balanced. Region 3 was like the latter with 7 teams at 500 or better out of 10 teams with only two teams with double figure losses. Region 6 had most teams with 10 or more wins and Regions 4,5, 7, and 8 only have two team 10 game winners or better. Region 3 was only region had only two 10 game losers but most other regions had 4 teams with 10 game losers.

very interesting and well done guys

what jumps out at me is (and I think I'm seeing this right) the difference in number of games played

Region 6-226
Region 3-141

Region 6 has 16 teams while Region 3 only has 10. Take 6 teams away that have played roughly 13 games, and that accounts for 78 less games right there.

Not a problem. I didn't realize having that less of teams made that big of difference until I started doing the math.
