Hardly a competitive district.

It'll be exciting with the new alignment to see Carrington, Oakes and Midkota in that district. That is to say, if they still have districts with the super-regional idea.

While I appreciate Wildcats positive and detailed contribution to the topic, now that the football season has concluded, I'm hoping to get other interested poster's ( I think there are still some out there) input on District 5 for the 2013/14 season.

While it may not be the most talented district in the state, it could get very competitive. LLM is going to have a big target on their back from the get-go and it wouldn't surprise me to see them lose games that they aren't supposed to. The challenge for the other schools in the district however is going to be matching up with them. Is there anybody in District 5 who can match the athleticism of Anthony Olson?

I think District 5 will improve it's quality of play this season.

EKM will benefit from Mr. Entzi on staff. Coach Strobel and Coach Entzi will be pretty effective molding a group of younger talent with some good juniors and Seniors. If Chemistry is good, Entzi, Madcke, Greer, Miller and company will be salty.

PBM will be interesting to watch. Nic Blaskowski returning is huge for them. Think he is ready to have a big season. Diede is very athletic. As he matures, could be real good. Stalloch and others could turn this group into a very solid or better team.

Ellendale will move forward. The question is how far. Adam White as a junior is in his 3rd season and will lead well. Dathe at 6'5" at least , Belmore a very athletic 6'3" or more could be factor after a year not playing.
Durheim capable of being a solid guard and will need to be.
Hinton very athletic coming from a year out. Freshman
Vance could emerge. Real nice upside there.
Some other guys probly battling for spots as this will be a big and better team. Could be scary after a dozen or so games.

BCN is a little unknown to me. Lost couple real good seniors. Was told there is some promising young talent coming in. Coach Schaffer will put it together.

LLM will have chance to be pretty good again. B Thielges, D Thielges and Olson are a real solid three to build around. They lost 3 pretty important seniors. Only one senior on roster this year.
Thin roster to start season. 6'3" junior Podoll not available till mid January if then. 5'11" junior Stemen out 5/6 weeks with knee surgery. Sophs 6'2" Alo and 5'9" Warcken will perhaps be moving into lineup. Soph Good and couple others need to provide some depth with 1 senior and 1 junior on early season roster.

I heard earlier this week that Olson from LaMoure is going to be out for six weeks as well...

Noticed Ellendale beat LHM. 2 point game. Would that be considered an upset? Anybody at the game who could tell us about it?

Ellendale is playing pretty good ball right now. If they would've handled Linton's press better this would've been a 10 point win for Ellendale. Linton has nobody who can match up with White. The lack of a true big man made Linton resort to double and triple teaming him...even trying "hack a White" but he's a competent enough free throw shooter to make that strategy ineffective. White has been facing the double, triple teams for three years now so he knows the correct moves to handle them. When White gets some help on offense from Dathe and Vance driving along with a couple deep balls they're tough to beat. Linton plays a run and gun offense...where they rely on the drive and kick, but they live and die on threes and mid range jumpers. Literally, NO post game from this team. Small is a standout player for Linton, but he can only do so much. Purintun is another good player although he gets a little trigger happy. In the end, Ellendale was up by 10 with under two minutes to go and Linton made a tremendous run that was spurred by three straight threes from one player and a couple difficult shots, but it was too late.

District just got a little more muddled last night with MPB beating Ellendale. Is laMoure back to full strength saw stemen in the boxscores what about Olson and Podoll?

Region 3 is as deep and balanced as it has been in years.
