Region and District one predictions

I was wondering what everyone had for region and district 1 predictions based on players lost and players returning.

I understand Milnor is the favorite after the run they made at the end of the year and only losing 1 senior, but up until the Region 1 Championship everyone though Oak Grove was a shoe-in to represent the region at state. Who are the sleepers? Who could take Milnor out of the equation? It's tough to repeat as a Region Champ, no matter how favored you are (just ask Beulah and North Star!).

Gotta think Maple Valley with Richman is going to be tough. Also, Central Cass always puts a quality team on the floor. Within the district, not sure, but Hankinson should be good and who knows what FCT will bring to the table in Burns' last year. Sargent Central also had a couple of solid victories last year, but not sure how much they graduated.

Lisbon returns two starters, Manske is a off and on player. Could be in the middle of the district. Sargent Central and North Sargent will both be around the same standings in the district, as Dawson Peterson from N/S is going to have to lead the bobcats this year. FCT relies entirely on Burns, not looking to see a different year than in the past. W/L lost it's two studs last year, going to be a rebuilding one for them this season. Don't leave Oakes out of the mix for the top of the district, they were an extremely young team last year. Hankinson is looking to compete with Milnor at the top of the district, as they have plenty of talent, and tall talent at that. Milnor is easily the team to beat. I can't see someone giving them a run for their money out of this district. I see Oakes and Hankinson battling for the #2 seed.

It is a little harder to motivate kids I guess because they’ve been pampered so much. We’re in the trophy generation, give ‘em a trophy for 23rd place, make ‘em feel good. Make mom and dad feel good.” Tom Izzo, Michigan State Basketball

Why'd you have to jinx them like that?? ;)

But in all seriousness, there are some other good seniors in D1. Dawson Peterson from North Sargent, D'Angelo Burns from FCT, and Wyatt Mund from Milnor; just to name a few. In D2, Richman from Maple Valley, Dangerfield from Oak Grove, Workin from Richland are all names that come to mind.

As far as Region athlete, a lot of those guys are on teams that aren't picked to do that well, but if a team plays better than expected that gives those players a boost. Mund is on a team with Bussman, so they may even split up some votes come D1 voting time and Richman is a big talent on a contending team. It seems like I'm probably missing someone from Central Cass, although I know they're often solid across the board.

As far as coach, again, that goes to a team that surprises people a lot of times. In D1, I think Bata from Oakes has a decent shot if they can climb into the Regional tournament because I know they haven't been there in a while. In D2, Card, Kegley, and Kocka always seem to be in the mix, and rightfully so.

Hankinson or Oakes will win district 1 coach of the year...however, I think if Milnor wins the region (as they should)...Milnor's coach will receive region CoY award
