This one might look like their last game did. Rugby is playing really well. Still am amazed that Berthold blew their lead last night. I wanted them to win just because I think they'd have given Rugby a better title game.

First Team: Not sure there are any first teamers.

Second Team: Kyle Lovcik(Rugby) having a awesome senior year and is the leader, and a great defender for the best team in the region. Hunter Braaten(Westhope) a junior who knows how to win, plays great defense(shut down Austin Lee in semis) and is a team leader. is a big reason why his team is playing for the region title tonight. Tanner Holt(DLB) a junior team leader who can take over a game, great defender. led his team to the region semis.

Other Players who could get a look: Houston Lavachek(Glenburn) great shooter/scorer. Had a tuff time in district play during the regular season. Team lost out in the region play in game.

In my opinion if you are going to make all-state you have to be the hardest worker on your team and a team leader. Even though all-state in an individual award. The kids that get it should be the type of player that leads by example, and makes his or her teamates better.

I would guess that Holte will make 2nd team again by default...Lavachek is a strong 2nd team possibility. Not sure on Lovcik...He has an "all-State" game, but not "all State" individual skills.

Heidlebaugh from Rugby may get there his Sr year. I'm sure the kid from Ryan will get all state in wrestling(actually quite the feat to compete at that level in simultaneous seasons)

As far as tonites game...Hate to sound cliche, but Westhope has to find a way to stay close early...If they let Rugby get away early again, it will be another 30 pointer. I don't see a 30 pointer tonite, but Rugby by 15.

In my opinion more consideration needs to be given to players who help their teams. I think we should look at more than just pure numbers. Lovcik should win senior athlete of the year in Region 6 (If he doesn't somehting is wrong with people). So if your senior athlete of the year, you lead your team to the district championship, the championship game of regions (and possibly to the state tournament, we will see tonight). Is there any doubt he should be all-state. I know we can't hold it against kids if they play on poor teams. I get that. I'm just a big fan of kids who bust their butts night in and night out and make the team better. I like to see them rewarded. I have seen a bunch of Region 6, and District 12 basketball. Lovcik, Holte, and Braaten have brought it everytime i have seen them play. I agree with you on the Westhope vs. Rugby game. If westhope keeps it close anything can happen. Don't forget this group of kids from westhope made it to the Sate football Championship game this year so they know what it takes to win.

I saw both games this season between Rugby and Westhope-Newburg. In the regular season game Rugby had a lot of trouble containing Braaten early before pulling away at the end. In the district tournament they jumped out early and it really wasn't much of a contest. I just hope both teams are healthy and ready to play. I've heard some rumors of the flu bug circulating around Region 6 and it would be a shame if both teams are not at full strength. No prediction here.... Just getting excited for the game.

I don't know much about how all-state teams are selected, but if I was looking for someone to build a team around, Rugby's Lovcik would be pretty high on my list. His stats aren't as impressive as some but he plays on a very well balanced team and deep team. They did lose some of their depth earlier in the season to a knee injury. Hate it when that happens.

Scoring 20 points in the semis, if that is shutting a kid down, what school of defense did you go to?

Lovcik got his 1000 point against DesLacs...not bad for only playing 2 1/2 years on varsity!
