One Class

Postby woodchuck10 » Fri Feb 08, 2013 6:59 pm

I was thinking about this the other day with the one class system. I do like the two class system we are in but here is just something that I thought about. I am not a fan of a three class system.

Keep the EDC and WDA. Divide the Class B schools into 6 regions with 12 districts. 6 region Champions and the EDC and WDA Champions qualify to have an 8 team State Tournament.

I know this has a lot of geographical mistakes

So basically you would never have the best teams in the state in the state championship tournament with only having 2 class A teams there. That in no way seems like a state championship to me. Growing up in a class B school, there is a significant difference between class B and class A schools, which should be no surprise because of the difference in school size. Just check with schools who teeter on the edge, like Beulah. Your thought is interesting but realistically it would in no way be a championship tournament. If would only have 1 class then maybe 4 or 8 regions with either 2 or 1 qaulifiers based upon geographics with approximately the same number of class A teams in each region. Imo a 1 class system would not be good for ND basketball, as basically it would be a class A tournament with an ocassional exception, as it should be if you have the best teams at a single championship tournament.

Well in 2010 the best team (North Star) didn't even make it to the state tournament. This was just something I thought would make for some great Region tourneys. And this makes it so everyone in State has earned their way by winning three games in a row against equal caliber teams..........better than 3 class imo

If NS was the best team, they would've went to state. Nuff said!

the best team doesn't win every game, so no. I also vote we perma-ban anyone that says "nuff said."

How is this better than a 4 region system? In your system, at least 12 of the best 18 teams in the state would not be participating in the state tournament on a regular basis.

This year, Red River or Shanley would be staying home, and Shiloh or Garrison would go to state. If these two teams play each other, it's a 40 point game. This would not be an entertaining tournament, nor a productive tournament. Realistically, the WDA or EDC champion would win the state tournament at least 95% of the time.
