I think Turtle Lake will be the team to beat..... Great size up front and Peltier can shoot the lights out...
Shiloh will be pretty good but inexperienced..... I think Grant County could be a sleeper, they have good size and played there young kids quite a bit last year....

Should be a fun year

Does Grant County have a new coach? If so, who is it?

I got the chance to watch the Mandan Holiday Tourney over the weekend. Some of the top teams in region 5 played each other. Gran t County played Shiloh Christian. Turtle Lake Mercer played Shiloh Christian with Shiloh coming out on to in both games, taking Championship. The tournament was only missing another strong contender, the Standing Rock Warriors. If the Warriors participated in the tourney I think it would have been a preview to Region 5 tournament. Both Grant County and TLM are good teams and both had the height and size advantage over Shiloh, making the Shiloh, in my opinion the underdogs. I think the above mentions games could have went either way, but what made the key difference in each game is Shiloh's sniper shooting abilities. Bearstail, Lambert, and YellowWolf all can shoot the lights out. Lambert is a clutch player and very exciting to watch. Bearstail is great defensive player with his quickness and again can shoot three-pointers like passing out candy at Halloween. YellowWolf although being listed 6'0" plays very strong down low and is not afraid to battle with the big guys. YellowWolf seems to be one of those players that quietly lingers in the back round and before you realize it he's cashing in a three-pointer or unselfishly dishing off to a teammate for a score. I believe region 5 is going to be a very exciting region to watch, At this time I believe the two top teams Turtle Lake Mercer and Shiloh Christian. :)

I watched Standing Rock Vs. New Town at BHS and the Warriors came away with the Win. Pretty close game but NT Eagles had no depth in their bench, New Town starter Wayne F. got into foul trouble early in the game which definitly played a factor in the game. Also another factor it looked like some of the New Town players had trouble in the conditioning area. All in all good game, don't the outcome of the Washburn game. :?

1. Shiloh Christian- Tough to pick against 6 outta the last 10 state berths. Dwyer knows how to game plan if he's seen you once he'll play towards his guys strengths 2nd time around, will do what it takes to get to state even stall :) 2. TL-MM- Trojans return most experienced team since last region title berth and look to avenge early season Mandan holiday tourney loss to Shiloh. 3.Garrison 4.Grant County 5.Washburn. 6.Flasher. 7.Standing Rock. 8. 3-7 could flip flop depending on tournament seeding, but this is a 2 horse race and like many yrs of late region 5 will come down to the Skyhawks and Trojans.

I have to agree with you, mid-season, the two top teams to beat are still the Skyhawks and Trojans. I haven't had a chance to watch Washburn or Garrison play but could be a battle for third and fourth along with Grant Co. I think the Trojans just had loss to S. Border and the Skyhawks had a loss to Mott-Regent, so it looks like both teams still need make some adjustments and improvements. I watched Shiloh and Mott play and there was no way Shiloh should have lost to Mott. Bottom line Mott came to play and Shiloh fell asleep at the wheel. :D

South Border beat Grant County by 2 on Monday night at Shiloh. It was a good game with SB hitting a pair of FT's with 1.6 left on the clock. Grant County is big and has a couple of very athletic players, if they can knock down some outside shots consistently they are a very good team. It was a good game to watch and I was impressed with both teams. SB had more depth and shot the ball better from the perimeter and that was the difference in the game. (in my opinion)

Turtle Lakes only loss was against Shiloh, they do not play South Border this year.

Lots of upsets in District 9 so far.... going to make for some interesting early matchups in the Region Tournament.... Could see TLMM and Grant County as a first game........both big strong teams.... Maybe Shiloh/Washburn in the first round.... same matchup as last years championship game..... Tournament time is fun cause you never know what might happen....... Flasher looks real tough with good winning streak going as well...
