LLM beat South Border 66-52 tonight. LLM was up by as many as 20 most of the 4th quarter. A. Jacobson didn't play most of the game with what appeared to be a bad back.

Not doubting the capabilities of other teams, but Region 3 nearly always comes down to LaMoure and Linton. It might be the 1st round, 2nd night, or 3rd, but the road to state always goes through these two. Two best coached teams in the region and Linton has capitalized the most in history, but I think LaMoure group knows not to overlook anyone especially after last year's major disappointment. I still think South Border and Strasburg could possibly get hot and knock one of them off.

You are right SYR. But every now and then a team can break the trend. As good as LLM and LHMB have been this season and historically, they are capable of being beaten. There are a handful of teams that could make a run.

G3: #1 LHMB over #4 Kidder County
G4: #3 South Border over #2 SZ

Tuesday, February 19th
Region Qualifier - SZ over Napoleon
Region Qualifier - Central Prairie vs. Kidder County
Championship - LHMB over South Border

Looking at the box score of the LLM-SB game, it seemed as though LLM got out to a quick start and from then on it seemed to be a fairly even game... I'm really hoping S-Z and LLM get to meet up in the regional tournament. Both teams like to play an up-tempo style which would lead to some fun basketball to watch.

Just interested on the conversation on here so I did some research.

South Border's 9 wins have come against 6 different teams with 5 of them being from ND and 1 from MN. Of the teams SB has beaten from ND their combined record is 33-52 with only one win against a team with a winning record (Grant County). I know SB has dealt with injuries and has not been 100% very much this season so I'm not trying to bash them I just found this interesting. It will be a good test against LLM on Saturday to see where they are as a team right now.

If you want to use that rational than you need to look at S-Z, there only win against a team that was over .500 at the time was Linton. (SB is over .500 now but were below .500 both times they lost to them.)
In reality, S-Z is still a very talented team and one to be reckoned with come tournament time. I would be willing to bet that there are a lot of teams in ND Class B who have a majority of their wins against teams with below .500 records.

I realize that most wins teams have are going to be against teams with losing records since there is a reason those teams have losing records. I was just interested to see if South Border has any wins that really prove that they have what it takes to compete with the big boys like Linton and LLM. If you compare the stat of SB's one win against teams above .500 to LLM who has 8 and Linton who has 5 you see that overall SB's quality of wins doesn't match those of LLM and Linton. Now I'm not saying come tournament time that SB can't make a run because I think they have the athletes to do so. It just comes down to whether their 1st year coach can find a way to beat the knowledge and experience that Thielges and Carr have.

I dont think you would find anyone from either side that thinks LLM would win by 20 or more if they were to meet again.

Personally, I would favor LLM by a couple of possessions (say 5 points) if they were to play today.

It doesn't matter much now on what happened during the regular season. If a team wants to go to state they're going to have to beat the best to be the best. So seeds aren't really that important except for the best match up for the championship. Any team can get hot, and some teams are just clutch and tournament teams. Its going to be interesting to see which players show up and take control, and which coaches can lead them to victory, and make the right choices at the right time. It's all about hustle and heart now.
