lol...I wish you would take my comments with a grain of salt. I'm obviously not very serious on here, a lot of times I'm laying on the old sarcasm pretty thick! I realize who is most likely to win, but what would we talk about if we all just picked the favorite!

I'm going out on a limb here...

HR over Killdeer
Trinity over MR
NE over Beulah
Hazen over Bowman

HR over Trinity
NE over Hazen

NE gets back at HR from districts

I'm not from this area and haven't seen a single game of any of these teams. My knowledge only comes from on here, but I think there could be upsets each night of this tournament and someone no one picked will pull it all off. Or all the higher seeds could win and Beulah tops Trinity in another classic in the championship.

Sound bracket Ndlionsfan... and I can agree with you halfway: I've seen most these teams at least one time, and I think that region 7 is extremely deep (maybe not the best team in the state, but the most depth). So I agree that anyway could upset anybody... however I don't see a District 13 team winning that region. To me it is a matter of being good enough to win 3 in a row. All four of the District 13 teams are good enough to beat anyone in the tournament, but I don't think any of them have what it takes to do it for three consequtive games against the quality of teams this tournament is providing.

The only single upset that would shock me is if Killdeer won a game. But while I wouldn't be extremely suprised if New England, Mott-Regent, or Heart River got a win against one of District 14s top 3... I don't think they can get three wins in a row against that competition.

Of the District 13 teams, I give the greatest odds to Heart River because they have the easy first round match up. My greatest long shot would be New England, they get more hype on here than anyone in that region but they've yet to back it up so far this season, and their loss in the district tournament set them up with an extremely rocky road.

Thank you thank you thank you. New England is way over hyped and the only district 13 team I could see winning in the first round is heart river.

This is going to be an interesting tourney in region 7, each one of these teams are capable of beating each other, so the question is who wants it more?

Round 1 final scores:

Heart River 68, Killdeer 53.
Trinity 69, Mott-Regent 54
Beulah 68, New England 54
Hazen 75, Bowman County 38

No surprises here. The winning teams had a few more athletes. Some good seniors ended their careers tonight - Sadowsky was real steady for Killdeer today and Mott-Regent could have made it interesting if Fries could have suited up tonight. Hate to see a senior go down to injury. Beulah wore down New England. Binstock, Hanson, Wolf and company had nice careers in New England. Hazen took it to Bowman County from the start. It does surprise me that Bowman County was able to knock off Mott-Regent in the District tournament after seeing both teams play today.

What happened to Fries? How did Mott do with out him?

I have heard two things and am not sure which one (or both) are correct - I heard he suffered a calf injury late in the qualifying game vs. Beach, and I heard he got injured (or re-injured?) in practice on Friday.

At any rate, he was on crutches today and I really didn't see him put weight on the injured leg at any point.

Mott-Regent fell behind early on and scratched their way back to just a 33-30 deficit at the half. They gave a good effort but would've needed Fries in the middle to have a shot.
